    Personal Covenant & Liability Release FormThe guidelines listed below are required for those participating in this journey. You gonot as a tourist, but as a guest of Guatemala, Impacto ministries and the church inGuatemala. Please remember that Guatemala does not have the same conveniencesyou are used to at home. It is very important to be flexible and willing to adjust to the

    expectations of your host.I recognize and accept the following conditions which will further the usefulness andsafety of our short-term mission. I agree to:

    1. Release and discharge the organizations and individuals which helped makethese arrangements, including Impacto ministries, Sault Wesleyan church, theiragents, employees, officers and volunteers, from all claims, demands, actions,

    judgments, or executions that I have ever had, or now have, or may have, orwhich my heirs, executors, administrators, or assigns may have or claim to have,against these organizations, their agents, employees, officers, and volunteers, and

    their successors or assigns, for all personal injuries, known or unknown, andinjuries to property, real or personal, caused by or arising out of this journey. Iintend to be legally bound to this statement.

    2. Adopt an attitude that I am on this team to try to understand the host culture,not to convince them of my own viewpoints or style. I know that there are manydifferent ways to accomplish the same objective, and know that my way is notnecessarily the best.

    3. Abstain from making derogatory comments or arguments regarding people,politics, sports, religion, race, or traditions.

    4. Go as a servant and will adopt that attitude when dealing with my fellow teammembers and the people I meet during the trip.

    5. Accept and submit to the leadership role and authority of the team leaders fromthe Sault Wesleyan church and the staff of Impacto ministries and promise toabide by their decisions as they concern the mission trip.

    6. Acknowledge that by engaging in this journey, I am voluntarily subjecting myself to certain risks, including and in addition to those risks that I normally face in mypersonal and business life, these risks include, but are not limited to, such thingsas health hazards, death, crime, diseases, pests, and poor sanitation; potentialinjury while working and inadequate medical facilities.

    7. Understand that our team's work is but a part of the bigger picture that ourmission partners are trying to accomplish. I promise not to be overly demanding,

    to do my best not to offend or cause embarrassment for the Sault Wesleyanchurch, Impacto ministries nor the local churches, and do my best to help themattain their long-term goals.

    8. Attend all team meetings possible, both prior to departure and during themission trip.

    9. Refrain from meddling, complaining, and obscene or insensitive humor. I realizethat others on my team, during the journey, and while onsite will look at me for anexample of Christian acts, and will not treat that responsibility lightly. I understandthat travel, especially to remote locations, can be difficult, and I promise to adopt

    a flexible attitude and be supportive as plans may need to be changed. Iunderstand that I must travel with the rest of the team.

    10. Regard the differing styles of worshipping with respect. I promise that I willrepresent the Christian church without a superior or colonial attitude.

    11. If a loved one or dear friend is traveling with me, we agree to interact with allmembers of the team, not just one another. I promise not to initiate or seek newromantic relationships with team members during the trip.

    12. Avoid any actions which might be perceived as romantic attentions towardindigenous people I meet.

    13. Refrain from using tobacco or alcoholic beverages while on this mission trip. Abstain from any illegal drugs or prohibited activity while on this trip.

    14. Remember we are Christians from another part of the world and will be watchedvery closely both home and abroad. I will not take lightly this importantresponsibility of setting an example.

    15. Refrain from giving gifts, such as money, clothes, jewelry, etc. Although theintent of the giver is good to the result could cause problems. If I feel compelledto give a gift to someone I have met, I will consult first with the team leaderbefore I promise or give the gift, and I promise to let him or her make the final

    decision on this matter. This covenant does not apply to the small fellowshiptokens we will discuss and have approved before going into the field.

    16. Act as a servant of the team in Impacto ministries. I will respect the advice I amgiven concerning attire, eating and drinking, and other such traditions which willhelp me to assimilate into the local community.

    17. Understand that every member of this group is expected to share freely fromtheir particular blessings and talents. I agree to participate as fully as possible.

    18. I agree that in the event my conduct is considered so unsatisfactory that it jeopardizes the success of the trip, and that mediation during the trip has failed tocorrect my behavior, that my services in connection with this mission shall end andI shall return home immediately at my own expense.

    19. In signing below, I represent that I am 18 years of age or older, or myparent/guardian will sign also, accepting the above conditions on my behalf.
