Happy New Year! It has been a fantastic fall for the band and orchestra. Whether we were prac-ticing, performing or concertizing, our students did an outstanding job, sec-ond to none. Time has just flown by. It’s hard to believe that we are just shy of reaching the halfway point of the year. I hope that you are able to attend and support our student musicians at sever-al upcoming events. Join us at the State Theater 7:30pm, January 9th as 1st Co., LHSGB opens for the Royal Marines Band and Scots Guard Pipes and Drums. I am sure you will be very impressed by these bands. You will also experience first hand where we draw much of our British Military style and

tradition. Monday, January 18th our Colour Guard and pipers will be involved in a parade/observance in memory and celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King. This event will step off on 3rd Street at 11:00 am. Later that same af-ternoon, the Colour Guard will take part in Journey for Justice held at 1:00pm, Broughal Middle School. February 10th -14th the Band and Orchestra travel to Orlando, Florida and perform at Disneyworld. Finally, I would like to invite all students, participating in the 2016-17 Grenadier Band, as well as their parent/guardians to a pre trip informational meeting for our upcoming travels to Honolulu, Hawaii. The meeting will be held Jan 5th at 7:00pm in the high school auditor ium. Over the years, our organization has participated in many significant cultural and celebratory events. We have al-most become accustomed to performing on the national, if not the world, stage. This is a wonderful thing that few bands enjoy. I have spoken to our students at length concerning the importance of this trip and our role in it. Our trip will focus on multiple events surrounding the remembrance and 75th Anniversary of the Bombing of Pearl Har-bor. We need to value and understand that Liberty High School has been chosen to perform a very important role during this celebration. During the meeting we will discuss trip details, projected cost(s) and most importantly, trip consent forms. I highly encourage everyone to attend this kick off meeting. In closing on behalf of Mr. Frank, our families and myself we wish you a very Happy New Year.

Monthly Hoagie Sales Hoagies are a long-standing fundraising tradition for the Grenadier Band and Orchestra. This sale provides a fre-quent and regular source of income for both the individual student and the organization as a whole. Each hoagie sells for $3.50—of that, $2.00 goes directly into the student’s quota, and a variable portion goes into the general fund. Four varieties are offered: Regular with and without onions, and Turkey with and without onions. Regular hoagies contain ham, bologna, salami and American cheese; Turkey hoagies contain turkey breast and American cheese. All types come with a separate baggie of lettuce and tomato (these hoagies do not get soggy! A great selling point!) and an Italian dressing packet.

It is extremely important to place your order on the dates listed below so that enough supplies are ordered. It is preferred to order online from the LHSGB&OPC website. We begin making hoagies at 6:30 AM on the 2nd Saturday of every month in the Liberty cafeteria. All students who participate in the sale MUST help make hoagies and MUST have an adult partner. If there is a scheduling prob-lem, a substitute must be found. Any questions, email Frank/Chris at [email protected].
