Local Community Involvement in Old Town Bloom:

Hazlehurst Studios are working alongside Town Team Development and Halton Borough Council’s Arts Development Team to bring some blooms into the Old Town, Runcorn. Working with community groups and businesses in the old town we aim to bring groups together by creating an oasis of flowering tins made by collaborating with artists and several community groups. This will be achieved by running a series of workshops in schools and with community groups as a vehicle to brighten and raise the profile of the area as somewhere people care about, as well as passing on some of the valuable skills of art and flower planting, to name a few. The location of the tins will be kept under the lid for now, whilst we sort out the logistics.

What do we want from you?

We would love your involvement! From a single tin to whole load of them, every bit helps!

What do we need from you?

Tins! From the average soup and bean tin can size, to your larger catering style. If you want to be more adventurous with your planters, feel free to go mad, anything from wellies to an old bin.

Plants/seeds (Once we know numbers of involvement, we can advise on whether to go with plants or start some seedlings). Anything can go in the tins, from flowers to herbs. You could also think about what native wildflowers would work well within your environment, your own mini meadow would be something lovely http://www.nationalgardeningweek.org.uk/getattachment/Wildflowers/Wildflower-Planting-Information.pdf.aspx

Compost (Any help with providing compost for your pots would be most appreciated).

What can you do?

Get involved and create some tins Get involved and help with planting Get involved by spreading the word Come and network on the 5th August ‘Old Town Bloom’ Day and see all the other tins.

How can we at Hazlehurst help?

Drop in days for design and planting advice Email/online support for ideas. Provide Templates for you to create some designs. You could create your own soup can label

to promote your organisation. Once all the tins are ready, we will be featuring them on our website/social media accounts

and talking about your organisation. As well as adding information labels to all the tins, like in a gallery exhibition.

Businesses: We would love businesses to get involved; you can logo up a planter/tin of your choice! A donation of supplies would be most welcome, but it is by no means mandatory, as involvement is what we want the most. If you want Hazlehurst do one for you, then bribe us with plants, compost or spray paint.

How easy is it to create designed tins?

Very easy! The project artists at Hazlehurst are more than happy to provide some advice and support in the design and planting.
