Levels Of Prevention

Primary Prevention. To encourage optimal health and to increase the persons resistance to illness. Seeks to Prevent a disease and condition at a Prepathologic state ; to stoP something from ever happening.a. Health Promotion and specific protectionb. Examples:i. quit smokingii. Avoid/limit alcohol intakeiii. Exercise regularlyiv. Eat well balance dietv. reduce fat and increase fiber and dietvi. Take adequate fluidsvii. Avoid over exposure to sunlight.viii. Maintain ldeal body Weightix. Complete immunization Programx. Wear hazard devices in work site

Secondary Prevention. Known as Health Maintenance. Seeks to identify sPecific illness or conditions at an early stage. With prompt intervention to prevent or limit disability; to Prevent catastrophic effects that could occur if Proper attention and treatment are not Provided.a. Early Diagnosis/detection/screeningb. Prompt treatment to limit disability c. ExamPles: i. Have annual Physical examinationii. Regular PaPs Test for Women,iii. Monthly BSE for Women who are 20 y/o and above.iv. sPutum examination for TBv. Annual stool guaiac Test and rectal examination for clients over age 50

Tertiary Prevention. To support clients achievement of successful adaptation to known risks, oPtimal reconstitution, and / or establishment of high-level wellness. Occurs after a disease or disability has occurred and the recovery process has begun; intent is to halt the disease or injury Process and assist the person in obtaining an optimal health status.A. RehabilitationB. Examples:I. self blood glucose monitoring II. Physical therapy after ; Participation in Cardiac Rehabilitation after MI III. Undergoing speech therapy after laryngectomy

Activities to Promote Health and Prevent Illness1. Have regular PE2. Womana. Regular PAP Smear b. Monthly BSE 3. Men: regular testicular examination4. Annual dental exam and ProPhylaxis 5. Regular eye exam 6. Exercise regularly: 3 times a week for 30minutes, same time 7. Do not smoke, second hand smoke8. Avoid alcohol and recreational drugs9. Reduce fat and increase fiber and diet10. sleeP regularly seven-eight hours/night11. eat breakfast12. eat regular meals with few snacks13. maintain ideal body weight
