Malayan Colleges Laguna (MCL) opened its doors to the youth of Southern Luzon on June 18, 2007. A wholly-owned subsidiary of the Mapúa Institute of Technology, MCL was founded to extend the quality of education Mapúa is known for.

Located in a scenic spot along the South Luzon Expressway in the city of Cabuyao, MCL is close to the industrial hub of Laguna, giving students easy access to on-the-job training opportunities in prestigious companies.

Five colleges and one institute have been established at MCL: the College of Arts and Science, the College of Computer and Information Science, the E.T. Yuchengco College of Business, the Mapúa Institute of Technology at Laguna, the Mapúa-PTC College of Maritime Education and Training, and the Institute for Excellence in Continuing Education and Lifelong Learning.

MCL prides itself in its consistent string of successes over the years which include 100% passing rates in several licensure or certification examinations, 15 topnotchers, and the exceptionally high employment rates of graduates – all of which have helped MCL secure its ranking as the number one private HEI (higher educational institution) in CALABARZON*.

The institution is set to grow even further with the addition of programs for Senior High School. To accommodate more students, MCL’s third building, named Albert Einstein, was completed this year.

PRESIDENTThis is a time of change in Philippine education. In basic education K12 is being implemented and in higher education outcomes-based standards are being promulgated. Malayan Colleges Laguna (MCL) is actively involved in both reforms.

MCL is thus opening its doors to senior high school students come next school year. We shall offer all strands in the academic track and three strands in the technical-vocational track as you will read in the pages of this viewbook.

K12 is essential for the enhancement of the competencies of our country’s workforce. Those who intend to go to work right after high school can do so with knowledge, skills, values and attitudes that are up to 21st century requirements. Those who intend to go on to college shall be ready to tackle world-class curricula designed for global competitiveness. MCL is committed to make K12 work the way it is intended to.

Come study with us. We have highly-qualified faculty, learner-centered curricula and well-equipped laboratories. In the short span of eight years that MCL has been in this part of the country, it has established itself as a quality school that can compete at the highest levels nationally. By way of quantitative proof, it is unquestionably among the top schools in the whole country as far as passing rate in board examinations is concerned.

We aim to infuse our senior high school with the same quality that characterizes our college programs. What is Senior High School?

Senior High School (SHS) covers the last two years of the K to 12 program and includes Grades 11 and 12. In SHS, students will go through a core curriculum and subjects under a track of their choice.

Yes. These two additional years will equip learners with skills that will better prepare them for the future, whether it be: • Employment • Entrepreneurship • Skills Development (Further Tech-Voc training) • Higher Education (College)

SHS, as part of the K to 12 Basic Curriculum, was developed in line with the curriculum of the Commission of Higher Education (CHED) – the governing body for college and university education in the Philippines.

This ensures that by the time you graduate from Senior High School, you will have the standardknowledge, skills, and competencies needed to go to college.

Students will undergo assessments to determine their strengths and interests. These will include an aptitude test, a career assessment exam, and an occupational interest inventory for high schools. Career advocacy activities will also be conducted to help guide students in choosing their specialization or track.

• Senior High School “completes” basic education by making sure that the high school graduate is equipped for work, entrepreneurship, or higher education. This is a step up from the 10-year cycle where high school graduates still need further education (and expenses) to be ready for the world.• SHS will be offered free in public schools and there will be a voucher program in place for public junior high school completers as well as ESC beneficiaries of private high schools should they choose to take SHS in private institutions.• This means that the burden of expenses for the additional two years need not be completely shouldered by parents.

Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM)

Accountancy, Business and Management (ABM)

ABM is the strand for the business-minded: future accountants, businessmen and marketing experts. Specialized subjects include Applied Economics, Business Ethics and Social Responsibility, Fundamentals of Accountancy, Business Math and Finance, Organization and Management, and Principles of Marketing.

STEM is the strand for students who wish to explore the natural world and other technical subjects: future scientists, I.T. experts, engineers, mathematicians, health scientists, architects, maritime professionals, and agriculturists, among others. Specialized subjects for the strand include Calculus, Biology, Physics and Chemistry.

General Academic (GA)Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS)

Senior High School students who will take the GA strand can choose two humanities subjects, one social science subject and two electives from the specializations offered. Other subjects include Applied Economics, Organizational Management, and Disaster Risk Reduction Management.

The HUMSS strand is for students interested in human individuals and societies: future psychologists, social and political scientists, communicators, multimedia professionals, journalists and social workers. Specialized subjects include Creative Writing; Creative Non-fiction; Introduction to World Religions and Belief Systems; Trends, Networks and Critical Thinking in the 21st Century; Philippine Politics and Governance; Community Engagement, Solidarity and Citizenship; and Disciplines and Ideas in the Social Sciences.

Information and Communications Technology (ICT)

IA subjects involve the acquisition of skills using tools and machines. Students will also have the option to take college courses such as Mechanical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or Electrical Engineering, or apply for work right after graduation.

HE is the recommended strand for those who are interested in college degrees such as Culinary Arts and Hotel and Restaurant Management. Students will have the option to continue their studies or seek employment after graduating.

ICT is for the I.T.-inclined. After graduation, students can either work or, depending on the specialization, continue to college with courses like Computer Science, Information Technology, Digital Arts and Design, Communication – Multimedia Arts, or Broadcasting.

MCL is located within a six-hectare land in Cabuyao, Laguna. Facilities include three main buildings for classrooms, laboratories, faculty centers, offices, an auditorium and a cafeteria; a machine shop for Engineering courses; an outdoor student lounge; and a covered court and a track oval for P.E. classes and other extracurricular activities.

STEP 1: Submit the requirements to the Admissions Office (ADO).1. Duly Filled application Form for Senior High School2. Original and photocopy of Grade 10 report card3. Two pieces 1.5” x 1.5” identical pictures with plain background4. SHS Application Fee of PHP400.00 (for students from local private schools) or PHP200.00 (for students from local public schools). The amount will be deductible from the student’s tuition fee.

STEP 2: Pay the application fee to Treasury Office.

STEP 3: Present official receipt of payment to ADO and secure test permit and admissions kit.

STEP 4: Present the test permit to the proctor and take the MCL Senior High School Examination* on the scheduled date. Examinees are advised to arrive 30 minutes earlier than the scheduled time for orientation.

STEP 5: Exam results can be viewed online at www.mcl.edu.ph after seven (7) working days. If you cannot view the result, please contact the ADO at (049)832-4063 to 66.

STEP 6: After receiving the results of the MCL Senior High School Exam, kindly secure the requirements for enrollment.

Note: The MCL Senior High School Exam results will be used to determine the best track and strand for the applicant, as well as his/her eligibility for any scholarship.
