White House Portrait Ceremony

The paintings of 43 old presidents and first ladies hang

inside the White House. Imagine living in a house with

pictures of the home’s old owners, hanging on the walls!

Most presidents choose an artist to paint their pictures. It

takes the artists a few years to finish the pictures.

Some presidents were so unhappy with their paintings

that the artists had to do the whole painting twice!

Since the painting takes a few years, the pictures are

only complete when the president is out of office.

Each new president welcomes the old president for the

hanging of his picture in the White House. President

Trump does not get along at all with former President

Obama. He will not invite President Obama to the White

House for the picture hanging. Obama’s picture will have

to wait until there is a new president in the White House!
