Secret #2 – Dynamic Build Up Compensation

Level Measurement - Water and Waste Water Industry

• Unit monitors the amplitude of the signal at the transducer membrane

• When the amplitude is dampened, build up is detected

• Unit automatically adjusts power to the transducer face, continually ensuring the transducer face is free of build up

INTERNAL

Secret #3 – Decoupled Transducer Housing

Level Measurement - Water and Waste Water Industry

• Transducer housing is decoupled via an inner ring

• Eliminates false high levels due to ringing:• Caused by over tightening• Temperature effects of a metal coupling

Mechanical decoupling with an inner ring

Secret #5 Alternating Pump Control

Level Measurement - Water and Waste Water Industry

• Up to 6 pumps to program• Control possibilities:

1. By Limits (high or low)2. By pump rate (to reach a programmed pump rate in dependence of the inflow of a lift station) – “stand by function”

• Alternating function selectable• For each pump: Switch on delay, backlash function, crust

reduction and error handling programmable

Secret #6 Crust Reduction

Level Measurement - Water and Waste Water Industry

To reduce crust building at the walls of a pump shaft a variable switch point (e.g. +/- 2%) for pumps is programmable.

Why ? Crust at the wall can cause wrong readings and the customer has to clean it, using crust reduction reduce

maintenance time.

Secret #7 Sludge Detection

Sludge detection:

• Ratio between Ld/Lu will be detected. For Ld/Lu smaller a programmed value the relay will set an alarm.e.g. Ld/Lu should be bigger than 0,6

Level upstream Lu Level downstream Ld

Ratio =0,80,70,60,5

e.g. Sludge detection in flumes

INTERNAL

Level Measurement - Water and Waste Water Industry

Secret #8 Backwater Detection

• The ratio of the downstream depth to the upstream depth is expressed as a percentage and referred to as the submergence ratio.

• Calibration tests show that the discharge of a flume is reduced once the submergence ratio exceeds certain specified ratios.

• Once the submergence ratio exceeds these values, the flume is operating under submerged conditions and the flow rate is adjusted according to submerged discharge tables/formulas.

• As the ratio increases, the flow rate decreases. At a ratio of 1.0, the flow rate will be 0.

Ratio = 0.8

Easy to order:

Customer chooses via structure:

- 1 x sensor FDU 9x

- 2 x 4 ... 20 mA

- Application: Flow + Level

Benefit:

Only one sensor to measure two

parameters

lower cost

INTERNAL

Sewer system monitoring

Level - Continuous Liquids - Ultrasonic

overflowbarrier

• Control the filling level if the channel is used as storm water basin

• Calculate amount of raw sewage that is discharged into the river

• Channel blockage monitoring

INTERNAL

Flow measurement in open channels and weirs

• Records volume water flowing into treatment plant.

• The relationship between level and flow in a wastewater channel is represented in a Q/h curve

• Many channel and weir configurations are stored in Prosonic S

• Other channels can be programmed via a 32-point chart or via parameters.

Level - Continuous Liquids - Ultrasonic

INTERNAL

Inlet control: Rake/screening control for cleaning

• Measurement of differential level before and after the rake/screen with Prosonic S and 2 x FDU 90/91 sensors.

Chemical Storage in Plastic Tanks

• Plastic vessels are often used for aggressive / corrosive liquids

• The Levelflex Guided Wave Radar can be mounted on the outside of a plastic vessel

• Microwave energy penetrates through the plastic wall and reflects off the surface of the liquid providing a non-contact measurement

Scum Pit

• Ultrasonic Transmitter Failed• Problems

• Foam • Irregular surface

• Free Space Radar• FMR54 Success

• 6GHz better with foam• Larger beam angle helps

with irregular surface

Point Level Pump Protection

• Liquiphant mounted in the suction side piping for progressive cavity pumps

• When the Liquiphant indicates the line is empty, shut down pump to prevent “Run Dry” damage
