www.animaleducation.org Animal Care Education Teaching Centre
Animal Care Education Training Centres have been set up with the sole purpose of brining
short animal care courses to the public in the East Midlands area of the U.K and for
developing online courses for the many charity workers around the world.

Lecturers
Our lecturers Dana Prince NDAM, Cert Ed, MiFl and Carol Bladon, Bsc, PGCE, MiFl have worked in
full time education for over 15 years. Dana and Carol are both registered with the Institute
for Learning and are fully CRB checked.
They have had long careers various fields of animal welfare and management including
hydrotherapy, veterinary nursing, research areas, rescue and rehabilitation, zoo
management and dog training. Our partners and staff at both centres are also fully qualified
in Hydrotherapy and have experience in hydrotherapy and working with dogs and small
animals.
Our Centres
We use two registered centres for the level 3 Hydrotherapy Course, both have varying
facilities. Paws4 Centre is registered through CHA and Sherwood Canine Centre is registered
through NARCH. Both centres only take veterinary referrals, even for fitness and fun. You
have the choice of centres to book onto, however, the one day practical assessment in
module one will be run from Sherwood Canine Hydrotherapy Centre to allow you access
into the pool with the dogs and have hands on practice in the water.

Stapleford, Nottingham, NG9 7JA
(www.paws4.org.uk/)
Paws4 Hydrotherapy is registered with CHA. The teaching is spacious, with room to sit and
relax inside or outside at break times. There is a large free car park onsite and the centre is
close to the A52, M1 and will soon have a tram link into Nottingham onsite.
The pool area has a spa for separate treatments, showering facilities and a hydrotherapy
pool designed for maximum control with a harness. The Centre is owned and run by Anne
Westwood who is always on hand for advice and to demonstrate techniques and sessions.
Anne Westwood has a Bsc (hons) Animal Behaviour degree and has worked in hydrotherapy
for over 10 years.

Physiotherapy
Paws4 runs a physiotherapy service provided by Melanie Butler Chartered Veterinary
Physiotherapist. Melanie is also the Centre Internal Verifier for Animal Care Education and
advises on all aspects of course materials, resources and assessment structure.

Brierly Park Close, Sutton in Ashfield, Nottingham, NG17 3JZ
(www.eastmidlandshydrotherapy.co.uk/)
The centre has one of the largest pools in the UK, 26ft x 13ft x 4ft (8m x 4m x 1.25m) which
allows clients to handle dogs including giant breeds in the pool. The pool is in a spacious
room with showering facilities for clients and patients. It is heated at a constant 32c with
jets of water if required.
There is an aquatic treadmill onsite used as a stand-alone treatment or alongside pool
hydrotherapy treatment. The Centre runs an apprenticeship scheme for hydrotherapy
students and our trainer and assessor for practical days is Ken Gumbley. Ken has worked at
the centre for over 2 years and before this was the founding member of the Schuzhund
Club, involved in the psychology, fitness levels and temperament of working and sports
dogs.
www.animaleducation.org Animal Care Education Teaching Centre
Sherwood Canine Hydrotherapy also has free parking onsite and is close to the town of
Sutton in Ashfield. The teaching area is slightly smaller but the pool more than makes up for
this. Ken and the other staff members will also be on hand working throughout the courses
to offer an insight into the running of the Hydrotherapy Centre.

To achieve the full level 3 qualification there are 10 mandatory units (29 credits). The
qualification is overseen by ABC Awarding Body.
The above course is a nationally recognised qualification, for any clients living or working
outside of the UK please check with relevant regulatory bodies or veterinary authorities in
your state or province. This qualification fulfils the training requirements for registration for
both NARCH and CHA.
Animal Care Education Training offers flexibility in booking the units, it easy to complete all
10 units over a 1 year period or to book certain individual units for CPD purposes or for
those clients wishing to improve their CV or to work in a hydrotherapy setting.
Any units that are available to book separately are also included in our 3 day courses within
either module 1, 2 or 3.

considering starting a hydrotherapy pool. You will gain a basic understanding of water
management and treatment, looking at water chemistry and the relationship of various
