• From a phone conversation with a resident’s family member: “I feel veryblessed that my mom is here. We visited over the weekend and foundeveryone to be caring and loving.”

• Shared by a PACE participant during a Participant Advisory Committeemeeting, “this (program) saved my life!”

As a mission-driven ministry, we are most rewarded when we hear storieslike the ones above of how we made a difference in someone’s life whether itbe a resident of one of our retirement communities, a participant in ourPACE program, an employee or a child in our child care program. United Church Homes and Services Impacts Lives

Letter writing seems to have its place in the past.Either we are consumed by technology, don’t allowtime or are just lazy when it comes to handwrittennotes. There is beauty in handwritten letters. Ahandwritten letter is the next best thing to showingup at someone’s door; it conveys importance. It issincere. It is a valuable way to communicate. It isyour voice.

United Church Homes and Services (UCHS)welcomes your voice. We hope you will enjoy thiscollection of letters that communicates the impactof our organization and highlights the personaltouch our residents, families, community partners, and employees share.

United Church Homes and Services’ communities believein maximizing a resident’s own resources to impact andenhance quality of life and creation of new life goals. Thispurpose-filled lifestyle embraces value of community andfosters a renewed spirit of health and well-being.

Our family is grateful for the care and

compassion shown to our father the past

eight years. Dad’s biggest fear was life

in a “nursing home”. When Dad learned

about the UCHS community, he was

intrigued by being able to live an

independent life and have options

available should he need additional

care. For the family, we thought this

was a wonderful answer to our prayers.

We are blessed to have found such a fine

community that nurtures independence,

renewed life, and peace of mind.

grateful son of a current resident

Kudos to you and your team for the

outreach and philanthropic spirit you

a valued community partner

Whether you are welcomed with a smile or are greeted byyour first name, the team members at United ChurchHomes and Services value their role. Multiple generationswithin families have made UCHS their home foropportunity and growth. UCHS appreciates each teammember and their loyalty, compassion and dedication.

Life took a nice turn when I accepted a

part time position at UCHS. I felt at

home here. Soon after, I began taking

healthcare management classes. Our

Executive Director graciously agreed to

assist me along my path to becoming a

Health Care Administrator. Through my

experiences, I know first-hand the

amount of care and compassion the

employees share. Thank you UCHS for

having the confidence in growing me

both personally and professionally.

United Church Homes and Services’ Grant a DreamTM

program rekindles belief and heightens the ability to seethe best in others. The core of Grant a DreamTM is to grantbasic dreams to the seniors that we serve in long-termcare, assisted living, PACE and our affordable housingcommunities. Many of those are elders who are frail, lonely, with fixed or limited incomes, few opportunitiesand often rely only on memories to bring them happiness.UCHS Grant a DreamTM turns those memories into a newreality.

I believe the Grant a DreamTM program is

the heart of our organization. Each

“dream” takes on a beautiful life of its

own, some bringing tears of joy but all

bringing a burst of smiles from the

resident, employees, and family members.

I am often awestruck by the outpouring

of love and support for this program

throughout our organization.

PACE – Program of All-inclusive Care for the Elderly –has demonstrated a positive influence on the frail, elderlypopulation in Davidson and surrounding counties. PACEis changing lives for the better. More than 200 participantsare currently being served in our PACE program. Acombination of compassionate team care, managed healthservices, and care coordination have proven to benefitindividual health outcomes of those being served leadingto improved quality of life and socialization.

My world changed for the better and so

I have never been in a group of people

UCHS serves both seniors and children. Throughintergenerational programming, fun and meaningfulrelationships are born. Teaching and learning from eachother, regardless of age, results in a magical connection.

As a teacher, I have always valued

working with children and considered it

my calling. Through UCHS programs, I

have the opportunity to engage with

youth through intergenerational

experiences. Interacting with children

brings life to our community. It gives

positive energy to my day and their

curious minds warm my heart. I am

grateful for the foresight of this

organization to bring older adults and

children together.

United Church Homes and Services is transforming livesthrough their affordable housing program. Often seniorsare forced to make decisions on buying neededmedications, paying rent or having food. Access toaffordable housing relieves burden, has a positive impacton quality of life and builds community.

Losing my tangible possessions in a fire

was devastating and put into perspective

what you should value in life. I still

had my family and my spirit. My pastor

led me to UCHS. It has truly been a gift

Dear Friends,

United Church Homes and Services (UCHS) completed its fiscal year 2016on September 30th. Highlights of the financial operation for UCHSinclude a 6% increase in operating revenues. Revenue from UCHShealthcare centers remained about the same in 2016 as it was in 2015;however, revenue from Carolina SeniorCare PACE (Program of All-inclusive Care for the Elderly) increased approximately $2 million over last year. Revenue from assisted living and residential living programsincreased about 7% over last year. Revenue from the Home Care programsat Abernethy Laurels and Piedmont Crossing increased by 42% from theprevious year; Lake Prince Woods will offer this program in 2017.

Total revenue was more in 2016 than the previous year due to the increasein non-operating income from investments. Investment income was$4,978,910 for the year compared to ($1,107,479) for 2015.

Areas of expense that increased beyond the norm were related to thegrowth of PACE, as well as, home renovation expenses for residentialliving programs. The growth in revenue at PACE was due to an increase inenrollment as it began the year with 165 participants and ended the yearwith more than 200 participants. The 21% increase in participants wasachieved even with limitations placed on the number of allowableenrollments implemented by the NC Division of Medical AssistanceServices during 2016.

UCHS continues to reinvest in buildings and equipment which improvesefficiencies and delivery of care to those served. Bank financing secured in2015 is providing funds to complete a 96 bed healthcare replacementproject at the Abernethy Laurels campus in 2017.

UCHS remains committed to offering quality programs and services, while keeping abreast of issues relating to the Affordable Care Act andMedicaid expansion in North Carolina. UCHS remains financially strongand continues to confidently impact those we serve while planning forincreased demand, rising healthcare costs, and improvements to facilities.

Dear Donors,

It is an honor and privilege to perform God’s work and share with others information about the mission of United Church Homes and Services. We work each day to raise friends and funds for the needs of the peopleserved by this organization. In fiscal year 2015-2016, with the help of many, we raised $1,567,335. With the assistance of forty volunteers, we wrappedup a capital campaign at Abernethy Laurels and surpassed our goal, raising $3,642,834.

It is a bit of a joke that the “cool kids” make a commitment to leave alegacy and join the Julius Society. Well, there were sixteen new “cool kids”for a total of 261 living and legacy members. Over the last five years weadded ninety-one new members. Monthly donors are important to theUCHS Foundation and there are now seventeen monthly giving donors.

UCHS Foundation is small with only two employees and 17 members ofthe Board of Trustees working to serve the needs of our donors in NorthCarolina and Virginia. It is our goal to be available to help you with yourphilanthropic planning and giving at your convenience.

Thank you for your thoughtful charitable gifts to this Christian ministry. We are committed to providing vibrant senior living opportunities, diverse programs of outreach and compassionate healthcare services.Your gifts were used to promote meaningful work.

Blessings,
