    Dear parents / carers of students in Year 8

    At Deben, we believe in the development of students as citizens who take an activepart in their community. Community is one of the 4Cs to Success which underpinour school motto the best learners in the world walk through our doors.

    Each year, Year 8 students take part in our highly successful student receptionscheme this year. I am writing to outline the purposes and philosophy behind thescheme.

    As part of this scheme, students are given the opportunity to be a studentreceptionist undertaking a variety of tasks to assist administrative and teachingstaff and other students. They are based in the Student Reception area and lookedafter by our Senior Receptionist Mrs Thackeray.

    The philosophy behind the scheme is as follows:

    Through assisting others and working in a different way with adultsgives students an insight into the world of work and enhances theirunderstanding of employability;

    They act as ambassadors and guides to important visitors to theschool;

    Students have the opportunity to make a difference to - and havesome responsibility - in their school community.

    I believe that this is a very valuable experience for students and hope that parents /carers will support their sons / daughters being involved in the scheme.

    For more information, please do not hesitate to contact Mrs Thackeray in the MainReception who co-ordinates the scheme.

    Yours faithfully,

    Mr CawleyHeadteacher
