In the very near future, I plan on going to nursing school at Kennesaw State University and becoming a Pediatric Oncology Nurse. I hope to become successful in my career field and enjoy what I do every day. My motivation for this project included my love for running cross country. I have participated in many 5K races and I was proud to of taken on the responsibility of hosting my own. First of all, my overall project was money raised for the Children’s Hospital. My research paper concerned the overall history of St. Jude and the history of the effects of cancer on a child’s life. From this research, I discovered the issue of pediatric cancer is much more urgent than anyone can recognize, and great role models have shaped the pediatric oncology world forever. My race was successful and I donated a total of $530 to St. Jude. The largest obstacles included communication with St. Jude and the total costs of hosting the race. St. Jude was difficult to work with, and the total cost of this event was approximately $625 (in which $100 was a refunded security deposit).

Dear Judges:

My name is Carley Cole and for my senior project I hosted a 5K charity race to raise money for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Additionally, my project topic directly relates to my future career. Hopefully, I will one day be a successful Pediatric Oncology Nurse, and it is a dream of mine to have the opportunity to work for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. This hospital seemed like a worthy cause to raise money for, and the idea of being associated with the hospital makes me proud. This project only reinforced my desire to work in the medical field. The feeling of donating money to children in need will one day be overcome with the feeling of treating and curing a child in need.

All in all, I believe this project was more beneficial than I can recognize. This project was the highlight of my senior year, and is something that should be continued throughout the generations.

Sincerely,
