I am sure you will support these changes to the leadership of Deben as we continue to developthe school and move it forward for the benefit of our students. More detail on the leadershipchanges will be in the next edition of the Deben News.

    In-House Catering

From 2 April 2010, Deben will be leaving the County Catering Service and will be taking theservice in-house. Students will not notice any difference at first as they access the service, but

change will come over the next few months. It is our intention to look at major improvements tothe service, working within our remit as a Healthy School.

    Year 11 Coursework / Examinations

We are really going for it this year with some of the highest targets set in the schools history forour current Year 11s (70% 5+A*-C grades and 58% getting 5+ with one of English and one ofMaths). By the time you receive this letter there will be around 20 school days left for studentsto make a real difference for their final examinations.

Some key questions / advice we are giving to Year 11 students:

Do you know your targets and how to get them? Have you asked your teachers?

Coursework have you finished it so you can make time for revision?

Revision timetable have you written one and are you doing it?

Parents / carers can support our drive for students to achieve their best this summer byproviding:

a place and a time to study that is quiet and has everything your sons and

    daughters need for their work; useful resources: revision books, CD-ROMs, access to My Maths or otherlearning-based websites. This includes encouraging sons / daughters to attend the hugerange of after school support classes that are being run by teachers in many subject areas;

support and encouragement, even when times are tough. Be patient andunderstand that the combination of stress and teenage hormones can lead to the desire togive up.

More advice and resources can be found on the Year 11 Parents web page on the website:http://www.deben.suffolk.sch.uk.

    Parents / Carers Getting Involved

I continue to develop ways for parents / carers to be involved in the school. The Parents FocusGroup (PFG) continues to go from strength to strength and you will no doubt have read MrsTinks articles in the Deben News. There are still places available on the PFG for those of youwho wish to find out more about what goes on at Deben High School. If you are interested thenplease contact my PA, Mrs Cumberland, [email protected].

If you would prefer to come in to school on a more informal basis directly to me, then I havereintroduced the Parents Open Forums which I ran in the Autumn Term. These run from 8.30 9.30 (with refreshments) and you set the agenda! The dates for these throughout the SummerTerm are as follows:

    Thursday 22nd April

    Thursday 6th May

Thursday 27th May Thursday 17th June

    Thursday 1st July

Please report to main reception and you will be taken to where the meeting is being held.

Lastly, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our parents / carers for their support ofthe school. It is incredible to see how many of you turn up to events to support sons / daughtersand staff. Thank you, and have a fantastic Easter holiday!

    Yours faithfully,
