It was calculated assuming that the maximum concentrations found at any location in the aquifer would be found in the extracted water at a rate of 150 gallons/minute (the total maximum was approximately 10 mg/1): 10 mg x 150 gallons x lbs x 3.785 I x 60 min X 24 hr x 365 day .. -7000 lbs/year -1- minute 454,000 mg gallon day yr With respect to determining the actual contaminant mass currently in the aquifer (i.e., the maximum amount available for extraction) a more appropriate calculation yields between 500 pounds and 2100 pounds mml.tnm organics (rate of extraction would vary but would be on the order of 35 to 150 lbs/year average or 5 to 20 gallons/year average assuming 14 years of 'extraction). Dear Ms Fratus

With reference to page 93 of the October 1990 Western Sand and Gravel Feasibility Study please note that the 7000 pounds per year maximum contaminant extraction rate was developed in the context of a conservative design for the treatment system It was calculated assuming that the maximum concentrations found at any location in the aquifer would be found in the extracted water at a rate of 150 gallonsminute (the total maximum was approximately 10 mg1)

10 mg x 150 gallons x lbs x 3785 I x 60 min X 24 hr x 365 day -7000 lbsyear-1- minute 454000 mg gallon ~ day yr
