Re:  Letter  of  Reference  for  Mark  Terry

I  am  writing  to  wholeheartedly  endorse  Mark  Terry  as  a  candidate  worthy  of  closest  consideration  for  the  position  of  Director  Strategic  Communications,  Office  of  the  Dean.    I  have  worked  closely  with  Mark  for  several  years,  most  recently  as  Director  of  Strategic  Communications  for  Neko  Harbour  Entertainment.  In  particular,  Mark  has  been  instrumental  to  the  success  of  the  year-‐on-‐year  renewal  of  our  key  stakeholder  partnerships  with  the  United  Nations  Environment  Programme,  United  Nations  Framework  Convention  on  Climate  Change  and  other  UN  bodies  in  connection  with  our  annual  Youth  Climate  Report  filmed  project.  Mark’s  ability  to  clearly  and  decisively  handle  relationships  with  everyone  from  front-‐line  communications  officers  to  C-‐suite  executives  at  these  organizations  is  a  testament  to  both  his  communications  skills  and  savvy  and  to  his  emotional  intelligence.  I  have  found  Mark  to  be  the  master  of  a  professionally  prepared  press  release  that  can  be  quickly  approved,  adopted  and  distributed  by  our  stakeholders.    Mark’s  work  that  laid  the  groundwork  for  the  success  of  the  Youth  Climate  Report  project  is  also  worth  mentioning.  Mark  has  been  a  global  leader  in  the  field  of  documentary  film-‐making  for  impact,  as  recognized  by  his  Humanitarian  Award  from  the  Canadian  Academy  of  Film  and  TV.  His  films,  The  Antarctica  Challenge  and  The  Polar  Explorer  have  been  two  of  the  most  impactful  documentaries  at  the  highest  decision-‐making  levels  on  the  subject  of  the  global  impacts  of  climate  change.  These  films  speak  to  Mark’s  keen  eye  and  steady  hand  for  strategically  successful  communications  and  his  tireless  advocacy  for  any  endeavour  he  undertakes.    Based  on  my  experience  working  with  Mark,  I  am  certain  that  Mark  would  be  a  positive  team  member  at  York  University  and  his  contributions  would  resonate  far  beyond  the  student  and  alumnae  community.    Sincerely  yours,

John  Kelly,  MA  LLB  CEO,  Neko  Harbour  Entertainment  Founder,  YouthClimateReport.org
