Professor Labao Wang is Director of the Australia-China Institute for Arts and Culture at Western Sydney University.

He has a PhD in Australian literature from the University of Sydney and spent 15 years leading the School of Foreign Languages at a Chinese university.

He is Vice President of the Chinese Association for Language and Semiotic Studies, the Chinese Association of Australian Studies in China, and the Chinese Association for Studies in World Literatures Written in English.

He was also the founding editor of the Chinese international English language journal Language and Semiotic Studies (2015-16).

His research interests include Australian literature, Anglo-American literature and postcolonial literatures in English, literary criticism and theory, and his books include A History of Australian Literary Criticism (2016, China’s 2015 National Achievements Library), Australian Short Fiction in the 1980s: Continuity and Change (2000) and The Purest Art: Euro-American Theories of the Short Story as a Literary Genre (2006).

He is also the Chinese translator of John Crowe Ransom’s The New Criticism (2006).
