June 2012 Dear mission partners, During the May bank holiday weekend, I visited and spoke at the retreat for Chinese Gospel Church of Dublin’s Mandarin congregation. It was a privilege to fellowship and share God’s love with many of my kinsmen from China who are now settling in Ireland. A baptismal service in the nearby beach front was part of their retreat programme. It had been windy for a couple of days and some big waves were rising in the Irish Sea. But in the morning of the baptism, the wind took a break and the waves subsided. We were able to witness the beautiful testimony of 2 new believers openly committing their lives to follow Jesus Christ. Like many countries in Europe, new immigrants have been coming to Ireland. They came from all walks of life including students, professionals, construction workers, as well as those doing small business. Most of them speak Mandarin. So many Chinese churches have been setting up Mandarin speaking congregations to better serve this group of new immigrants. COCM has played an important role in the initial stage of the Chinese Church of Dublin at the end of 1980s and early 1990s. Much the same as in many other Chinese churches in Europe, God has placed a group of dedicat ed and faithful servants in Dublin. The church has grown significantly since the 1990s with 2 congregations of over 250 people. God has given them a strategic location in Dublin’s city centre. In addition, the church is in the midst of building a larger facility at the edge of the city where many more people can gather together and worship simultaneously. Please pray that God will continue to strengthen the church with more servant lead ers and stir the congregations to take on the baton of mission to reach more people. The 5 th of June is the Diamond Jubilee Holiday. From 25 June, people in the UK and across the commonwealth will celebrate Queen Elizabeth’s diamond jubilee. This is only the 2 nd time in British history that a monarch has ruled that long. It is certainly a testimony of the Queen’s resiliency and toughness. Over the past 60 years, Britain and the world have been through tremendous changes. Prime ministers and ruling parties have come and gone. Yet through much of it, the Queen has been the only constant fixture in the lives of British people. One particular aspect of the monarch’s role that is relevant to Christians is that she is also the Head of the Church of England which has also been subjected to challenges from within and without. The political debate about abortion and gay marriage has been in Church leadership discussions as well as in the general public’s conversation. As a Constitutional Monarchy, even though the Queen does not have the power to openly de cide and influence government policies and Church affairs, her private consultations to the prime minster and leaders of the Church will still play a significant role in setting the direction this country and the Church will move down the road. So let us pray for the Queen that she may be healthy and will have the necessary spir itual strength to stand on God’s side for the years to come. “I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people – for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Saviour, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.” 1Timothy 2:13 Serving together in Christ, Rev. Henry Lu General Director

Much  the  same  as  in  many  other  Chinese  churches  in  Europe,  God  has  placed  a  group  of  dedicat-‐ed  and  faithful  servants  in  Dublin. Please  pray  that  God  will  continue  to  strengthen  the  church  with  more  servant  lead-‐ers  and  stir  the  congregations  to  take  on  the  baton  of  mission  to  reach  more  people.      The  5th  of  June  is  the  Diamond  Jubilee  Holiday.  From  2-‐5  June,  people  in  the  UK  and  across  the  commonwealth  will  celebrate  Queen  Elizabeth’s  diamond  jubilee.  This  is  only  the  2nd  time  in  British  history  that  a  monarch  has  ruled   that   long. As  a  Constitutional  Monarchy,  even  though  the  Queen  does  not  have  the  power  to  openly  de-‐cide  and  influence  government  policies  and  Church  affairs,  her  private  consultations  to  the  prime  minster  and  leaders  of  the  Church  will  still  play  a  significant  role   in  setting  the  direction  this  country  and  the  Church  will  move  down  the  road.  So  let  us  pray  for  the  Queen  that  she  may  be  healthy  and  will  have  the  necessary  spir-‐itual  strength  to  stand  on  God’s  side  for  the  years  to  come. This  is  good,   and  pleases  God  our   Saviour,  who  wants   all   people   to   be   saved   and   to   come   to   a   knowledge  of   the  truth.”  1Timothy  2:1-‐3      Serving  together  in  Christ,                                                                                                                                              Rev.  Henry  Lu                                                                                                                                                                                                      General  Director
