Transcript of Let's Roll
Theme:
The theme of Let’s Roll is heroism. This is the theme
throughout the book, because Todd Beamer and the other
passengers on Flight 93 risked their own lives to save the
country. “We’re going to do something. I’ve got to go” (Beamer
205). This shows that the people aboard the plane were going
to do something to try to keep the terrorists from hitting a
government building. “I just wanted to tell you that I love you
in case I don’t see you again” (Beamer 206). “… would you
please call my family and let them know how much I love
them?” (Beamer 211) Both of these quotes show that most of
the people on the flight knew that they weren’t going to make
it, but they still tried to help save the country. “We’re going to
do something… I don’t think we’re going to get out of this thing.
I’m going to have to go out on faith” (Beamer 212). This quote
also shows the courage of Todd and the other people on the
flight. They all knew that they needed to do something and that
their faith was the only way they could stop the terrorists. “Are
you ready? Okay. Let’s Roll!” (Beamer 214). “Let’s Roll” was a
famous phrase Todd always used. It was a way for everyone to
know that we are going to do this. He also said it when he was
ready for anything that they were going to do. Let’s Roll really
uses the theme of heroism throughout the book. You see how
many people gave up their lives fighting for our country.
Author’s Purpose:
Lisa Beamer wrote Let’s Roll to share what
happened on United Flight 93; on September
11th. She wanted to tell the story of what her
husband and the other members of the flight did
to save the White House or a government
building in Washington D.C. Lisa also wanted to
replay the events that transpired leading up to
the terrorists attacking the plane. Lisa wanted
the readers of Let’s Roll to see what kind of
person Todd was, and why he was named an
American hero. Lisa wanted to tell the story of
her and her husband’s life. She also wanted to
tell why the members of Flight 93 fought against
the terrorists. All passengers on the plane knew
they were going to die, but they were not going
down without a fight. They wanted to make a
difference and save America, even though they
were going to die in the process. Let’s Roll really
helps you to see what happened on September
11th, and the American heroes we have to thank.

against the terrorists. Following the death of her husband, Lisa set

help children experiencing family difficulties to make heroic
decisions every day. Lisa is known as one of the strongest women
after 9-11 by how she was able to find strength, keep her family
together, and carry on the legacy that her husband had left.
