 Workbook

, or book for short, is the term for an Excel file. This is what loads when you open yourExcel program. Many people use the term spreadsheet to refer to a workbook. However, aspreadsheet is actually the generic name for the computer program.

Worksheet, or sheet, is one page in your workbook. By default, you get three worksheets per workbook file. You can add additional sheets to a workbook by going to the Insert menu tab and

selecting Worksheet. To switch between worksheets, click on the desired sheet tab at the bottomof the screen. To give your sheets names, right click on the appropriate tab and select Rename.

Rows run horizontally across your worksheet and are numbered. In Excel 2007, you can havemore than a million rows so you can see how powerful this program is!

Columns run vertically down your worksheet and are paired with a letter: A to Z, followed by AA through AZ, then BA to BZ and so on.

Cells are the rectangular boxes in your worksheet that are formed when a row and column meet. The cell is therefore referred by the column and row it falls under. Each piece of information(name, date, number, etc.) goes into an individual cell.

The active cell is the current cell in which you can enter data. It is easily identified by the blackborder around it. To enter data in a cell, click on the desired cell to make it the active cell.

Formulas are mathematical equations that automate your calculations. In Excel, they begin with= and are followed by numbers or cell references and commands such as +, - and *. For example, if

you want to put in cell B1 the value of 60 times the number in A1, then you would enter in active

cell B1 the formula =60*A1.

The formula bar is the blank line at the top of the worksheet preceded by x. This is where youcan enter, edit or view data in the active cell. When you create a formula, the answer will bedisplayed in the active cell while the original formula is displayed in the formula bar.

Address Bar : This is the place where you can see the address of your Active Cell. For Example if  your active cell is in the column Z and in the row 29 the address of your active cell would beZ29 an the same would be visible in the address bar.

There are65536 rows

These are columns

They go from A to Z

and then AA,AB,ACand so on it goes till IV

This is an active Cell

These are worksheets

This is formulabar

Address Bar: You cannotice the address hereis J21 as the active cell isin column J and row 21.

All the formula's should start with + or = Sign.

Any Bracket you open in the fomrula you have to close it also before running the formula

otherwise formula would not work .Example: to add the two number in cell A1 and A2 theformula to be used would be =Sum(A1,A2).if you try to use this formula as =Sum(A1,A2 this wouldnot work as you have not closed the bracket.

Range: Range is defined as the cells on which you are applying the formula.Example:if you arecalculating sum of Cells A1 to A31 the range would be A1:A31.

If you are trying to insert multiple formulas in one cell always remember excel works on reverseBODMAS that means first sum then add the multiply and so on.

If you want to apply the formula to addthe values in cell B7 to B15 the range

 would be B7:B15

If you want to use Formula initially use it from here click here and you

 would get this box.

Click here select all and the find theformula you want to use from below

and click OK.

To add the numbers from cell B7 toB15. Formula used is =Sum(B7:B15)

To find the smallest number from therange B7 to B15. Formula used is

=MIN(B7:B15)

To find the Largest number from therange B7 to B15. Formula used is

=MAX(B7:B15)

To find the Average of all the

numbers from the range B7 to B15.Formula used is =Average(B7:B15)

Count: All the count formulas would give you count.Three Basics Count Formulas areCount: It will give you count of cells with number value in it.CountA: It will give you count of cells with any value in it and would discard the blank

cells.CountBlank: It will give you count of blank cells in the range.

Range:B8 to B18Formula used:=Count(B8:B18) Range:B8 to B18

Formula used:=CountA(B8:B18)

Range:B8 to B18Formula

used:´=COUNTBLANK(D8:D18)´

IF: All the If Formulas are based on some criteria you provide and if the the criteriameets it would action the result if not it wont action or say from the range of A1 to A15it would only action the cells whose values met the criteria and neglect others.Different If Formulas.

In the below example we have applied the formula on cell D8 Because we needthe result in that cell and then I have copied it and pasted it to other cells and I got theResult. If I would change the value of cell C8 now the result in cell D8 will also change. Also criteria can also be text.

This Box will appear after you select theformula by Clicking FX(Refer Slide 6 for

more Info) When you select IF this boxwill come

Give the criteria here the criteria useValue of cell C8<7.

What text should appear if the

is Smaller then 7 means your cr

is met

What text should appear if the

is greater then 7 means your cr

is not met

more Info) When you select sumIF thisbox will come

Sum if: Provide you the sum of the numbers in the cells which meet the criteria you have provided and would neglect the cell which dont meet the criteria.

In the below example I have calculated the Sum of ones who are pass. The formula isapplied in cell D18

Range of cells in which the criterishould meet here it is D8:D15

What should be the criteria her

the cell in the range where the t

³Pass´

Range of of the Cells which sh

be if the criteria is met in in the

specified range.
