THE LGBTQ BEHAVIORAL HEALTH COALITION OF SOUTHERN ARIZONA and THE LGBTQ CONSORTIUM invite workshop and
presentation proposals for the 4th Annual Statewide LGBTQ Behavioral Health Conference. Let’s Get Better
T ogether: a Quality Look at Healthcare will be held May 8, 2015, at the Hilton El Conquistador in Tucson. The
theme of the 2015 Let’s Get Better Together Conference is A DIALOGUE ON THE INTERSECTIONS OF LGBTQ
IDENTITY.
The Conference Committee invites workshop proposals that address healthcare practices for adults and children
who identify in the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Questioning, Intersex, Asexual, or Two-Spirit
populations AND “something else” meaning LGBTQ communities that experience other identities.
Proposals should address the intersections between LGBTQ identity and other identity areas, like race, class,
ethnicity, age, ability, country of origin, language, gender expression, gender identity, and discuss how these
intersections of identity interact with health services: early intervention, clinical interventions, peer support, family
support, health promotion, the coming out process, mental illness stigma, trauma-informed care, and suicide
prevention, etc.
For example, how might seeking services for an LGBTQ-identified person of color be different for these intersecting
identities? How might LGBTQ elders experience services differently than an LGBTQ youth? How does language play
a role when serving LGBTQ communities from different countries?
NEW for 2015: the Committee will stratify presentations into Beginning, Intermediate and Advanced track.
A Beginner-level workshop focuses heavily on terminology and introducing individuals to LGBTQ concepts. The
audience for this workshop most likely have never worked with LGBTQ populations
An Intermediate-level workshop may briefly touch on terminology but spends 95% of the workshop discussing the
subject material directly. Individuals who attend these workshops have worked with LGBTQ individuals before and
are looking for a deeper level of knowledge.
An Advanced-level workshop assumes that participants have an intimate knowledge of LGBTQ definitions and
concepts, and rather, delves into best practices, innovative new practices and complex health issues that affect
LGBTQ communities.
Please keep in mind that the Let’s Get Better Together Conference is statewide, and thus, proposals should discusshow the presenters plan to be inclusive about reaching participants from all areas in Arizona.
LOGISTICS

translate into their own day-to-day work.
