The Perfect Son
By Barbara Claypole White
From a distance, Felix Fitzwilliam, the son of an old
English family, is a good husband and father. But, ob-
sessed with order and routine, he’s a prisoner to perfec-
tion. Disengaged from the emotional life of his North
Carolina family, Felix has let his wife, Ella, deal with
their special-needs son by herself. A talented jewelry
designer turned full-time mother, Ella is the family
rock…until her heart attack shatters their carefully
structured existence.

A Note from the General Manager
Season’s Greetings to all of the Brickyard members and their families!
As the holiday season quickly approaches, I wish to extend a heartfelt invitation to join us for the many events we have
scheduled during this joyous season. We have planned very special events for adults, children, and families including the
Annual Membership Holiday Party and Open House on December 22nd. Please remember to RSVP for this event by
December 18, 2015 by calling or emailing Lauren or Luis. Thank you for helping us adequately prepare! The staff will
be busy decorating the clubhouse and our chefs are preparing delicious, creative dishes for your enjoyment. Please
check your emails, the monthly newsletter, and Brickyard’s website to keep abreast of the fun-filled events we have in
store for you! Celebrate the season and come out and enjoy your club!
I would like to personally thank all of the members who so graciously contributed to the Employee Holiday Fund. Your
thoughtful gifts will make this holiday season even more special for the Brickyard staff and their families. I would also
like to thank those members who have sponsored events for their friends, families, or colleagues throughout the year
and during the busy holiday season. Please remember to check the calendar for dining availability and hours due to the
number of events and be sure to make reservations for the many scheduled club events. Don’t forget that the Brickyard
offers a babysitting service for your convenience (with advance notice) for members and guests dining at the club! We
know how important a night out can be for our members who are parents. Please contact Lauren or myself to arrange
for childcare or to make reservations.
While we continue our quest with regard to management transition, we thank you for your patience. Additionally, we are
grateful for the talented team players currently part of the management team, all of whom are focused on continuously
improving membership services: Lauren—Catering, Eliza—Membership, Carl—Golf , Monica—Culinary, David—Golf ,
Kalai—Food and Beverage, and Marc—Golf Maintenance . They have been instrumental in enhancing the club standards
expected by our membership. Due to the busy holiday season, we will resume our search in mid-January 2016 and ex-
pect additional management in place thereafter.
A few notes as we look ahead to the calendar in December and January:
Due to how busy the month of December is for members and the club, the 2-for-$25 dinner on Tuesdays will not
be offered during that month, but we will resume this popular event on Tuesdays beginning January 12th, 2016.
As a reminder, Food & Beverage will close at 5pm on December 31st, and the club will be closed from January 1st,
2016 through January 8th, 2016 in order to complete necessary renovations and repairs. We will reopen on January
9th, 2016 for breakfast at 8am. Reciprocal golf arrangements during this time have been made with Idle Hour—
please call the golf shop for additional information.
Additionally, the clubhouse, course, and driving range will be open on Monday, January 18th, 2016 in recognition
of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.
As part of our ongoing focus on member services, we are working with the Brickyard Executive Committee to imple-
ment new membership programs and add value to your membership. Please feel free to contact one of the Executive
Committee members to voice your ideas, concerns, or ask questions as we enter the second month of our new fiscal
year; they are interested to hear from you!
Best wishes for a safe and joyous holiday season! We hope you and your family have a very happy Thanksgiving.

November Brings Great Member Activities!
Many of us are probably wondering how November snuck up on us—but here it is! This
fun-filled month may bring colder temps, but it also brings the beginning of holiday
merriment and offers a time to reflect on all we have to be grateful for.
Here are the Brickyard, we are thankful for all of our wonderful, long-time members
and those new members who have joined us recently. I often find myself telling others
how great our membership is.
In the following pages, you’ll see the many holiday season events we have planned to
give you an opportunity to mix and mingle with old friends and perhaps make some
new friends as well. From the Turkey Scramble, to the Children’s Holiday Party, to our
Membership Holiday Party and Golf Shop Open House, we look forward to seeing you
all at the club often!
Please stay tuned for new membership opportunities coming soon! As always, please
stop by my office and say hello. I am happy to answer your questions about member-
ship and always welcome feedback or comments. We hope to see you and your families

Gift Certificates & Guest Passes
Members with gift certificates will be notified by the golf staff. All gift certificates must be redeemed by Decem-
ber 31, 2015. While we have a variety of merchandise in the pro shop, we can also special order for you!
Starting November 1st, guest passes will be $38 each. Members will have 3 guest passes to redeem a month, no
rollovers allowed.
Driving Range & Practice Green Update
The driving range will be closed two hours before dark every Sunday evening.
This will allow staff to retrieve all range balls from the range, enabling our maintenance staff to mow on Monday and also ensuring we are not los-
ing any range balls.
The driving range and practice greens are for the use of the members and their guests. The driving range and practice greens may be used by
members during normal hours of operation.
Guests must be accompanied by a member when using these practice facilities to prepare for their round of golf.
The putting green adjacent to #1 tee and behind the
outdoor pavilion are for practice putting only. (please do not chip to the greens.)
The chipping green with the bunker next to the outdoor pavilion may be used for chipping from the grass around the green, as well as from
the bunker next to the green.
Please rake the bunker after you complete your practice and return the balls to the practice bucket so it will be ready for the next person to
practice.
Thank you, Carl and Jim

A Note from your Course Superintendent
With November upon us, it’s also time for the cold weather
and different care for the golf course. We have taken all the
necessary measures to help the turf areas make it through the
winter months. Throughout November, we will be continually
cleaning up debris on the course in addition to the falling
leaves. We will also be undertaking some tree cleanup as we
have a few trees along the course that have died. Keeping the
course clean and playable for you will be our main focus.
The health of the greens through the winter is a top proirity,
and we have taken measures to maintain their health and get
them through the winter months. We have slowly raised the
height of the greens to .140 and added phosphorus to them to
help the plants store nutrients throughout the winter. We will
slow down on mowing and roll them a little more often to re-
duce any stress and to keep them smooth.
We are still planning to repair some drainage areas on the
Driving Range toward the end of the month, weather permit-
ting, which will help us recover more range balls and improve
range safety for staff. Also, the bunker on #15 should be fin-
ished up this month if the weather allows.
Please remember that it is still important to continue to fill
divots and repair ball marks during the “slow growing
months.” Thank you for your assistance!
See you on the course!
Briane Faletto, GCS
Class A Superintendent

Fall Cooking Thoughts from the Brickyard’s top chefs!
If you ask Mattie and Monica about their favorite fall ingredients, you’ll hear some classics (apples,
butternut squash, and so on), and a few surprises. During this time of year as the weather turns
cooler, Mattie and Monica are just like us—they think about warm soups and hearty, spicy chili to
stay toasty! Below, we share a chili recipe that is guaranteed to please—and it’s quick and easy!
Also, you may have noticed the Grille Menu received a little update recently. Now, our menu features
Brickyard specialties including the popular, housemade tomato parmesan soup and classic golf fare
such as the Georgia and Carolina hot dogs. Stop by and try it for lunch!
