‘Userscanmotivateyourwork’.UserinteractionandthesuitabilityofCORDEXdataandinformationproductstoaccommodateuserneedswerethemainfocusoftheearlycareerscientistevent,duringtheCORDEXInternationalConferenceforRegionalClimate2019(ICRC-CORDEX2019).Challengesandopportunities were discussed through an expert presentation, short reflections by early careerresearchers,aswellasaninteractivedialoguewiththeaudience.Dr.Ailikun,anexpertscientistonregionalclimatecurrentlyworkingattheAllianceofInternationalScientificOrganisationsintheBeltandRoadRegion(ANSO),presentedhervisiononwaysforwardtobringrelevantregionalclimatesciencetosociety.Theclimateinformationshallbecredible,salientandlegitimate. This demands robust climate change data and information products. One importantchallengetoconsiderinthefuturewouldbetoincludeahumancomponentinregionalclimatemodels.Totailorclimateinformationtousers,Dr.Ailikunstressedthataco-productionandco-designapproachwould be desired to better understand the user needs and work on a continuous iterative basistowardsusefulclimateinformationtosupportmitigationandadaptationtoclimatechange.

Fourearlycareerscientistspresentedtheirshortreflections on challenges andopportunities onthe application of CORDEX data and userinteractions. Ester Salimun outlined that userscouldbemademoreawareoftheavailabledataand how to process it, as well as that openaccess to thedatashouldbe improved for IAVcommunities.

AnubhavChoudharyandDhirendraKumarjointlydiscussedtofurtherensureusersunderstandthebiasesanduncertaintiesintheprojections,aswellastobecomefurtherawareofuserneedsinuser-orientedworkshops.Improvedunderstandingofwhotheuserexactlyis,washighlightedbyMiriamMurambadoro.Shealsoelaboratedontheneedforcontinuousengagementandfortheintegrationofparticipatoryapproachesinknowledgeproduction.

Aninteractivedialoguebetweentheaudienceand the presenters took place after thepresentations. A wide range of topics werediscussed. The discussion emphasized theneedtoengage inuser interactiontofurtherdevelop regional climate science and alsohighlighted the challenge to foster the nextgeneration of early career scientists with auser-aware scope while retaining ascientifically solid disciplinary foundation.Notably, the need for capacity building andinteractive platform for users of CORDEXproductswasalsohighlighted.

Theearlycareereventwasanopportunitytoshare ideasanddiscusswaysforwardamongearlycareerresearchersonhowtointeractwiththeuserandtoexplorethesuitabilityofCORDEXdataandinformationproductstoaccommodateuserneeds.Aftertheeventdrinksandbiteswereservedtoenabledirectinteractionbetweentheearlycareerscientistsaswellasbetweenthemoreseniorscientistspresent.
