Let her Play!!! Celebra’ng & Examining Why Girls & Sports Ma:er! My Girl Power™ Project & the Pima County Tucson Women’s Commission present… My Girl Power Project™, a special project aimed at increasing k12 girls’ engagement levels in the sports, arts, science and health areas, and supported by the Pima County Tucson Women’s Commission, will be hosFng our first quarterly Community Chat, a hosted roundtable discussion with select community stakeholders, to discuss key issues that affect k12 girls, starFng here in Pima County, AZ. In light of Na6onal Women and Girls in Sports Day, Feb 5, 2014, the anniversary of Title IX, and the kicking off of the 2014 Winter Olympic Games, we will focus our first quarter discussion on why access to sports and physical ac6vity for girls is so cri6cally important, and why we MUST ensure access for all who would like to play. The roundtable discussion will take place in a public mee5ng format. Findings will be produced in a special MGP Report, which will be released in March 2014. Why  are  we  here?    

  To  celebrate  NaFonal  Women  and  Girls  in  Sports  Day  

  To  celebrate  anniversary  of  Title  IX  

  To  help  kick  off  the  start  of  the  Winter  Olympics  

  To  examine  if  there  are  any  barriers  to  play  in  Pima  County,  focused  in  on  

k-­‐12  girls.

 Fiscal  Office  -­‐  handles  all  pass  through  funds  

from  state  to  local  districts    

Special  AdministraFon    -­‐  Holds  elecFons  and  appoints  vacancies  at  school  board  levels  

 Can  host  technology,  fiscal  services,  and  support  for  district  with  less  than  600  

students    

InformaFonal  –  distributes  all  informaFon  from  Arizona  Aforney  General’s  Office  to  local  

schools    

EducaFonal  –  Oversee  the  Pima  AccommodaFon  District

  Serves  53,000  students  annually  

  Spends  nearly  $50k  per  year  for  high  school  level  sports  fees  

  Currently  does  not  support  middle  school  athleFc  programs

Don  Tringali,  Founder,                                                  Spor'ng  Chance  Center,      

Board  Chair  &  Execu've  Director  

Don  Tringali  is  a  reFred  aforney  and  corporate  execuFve  who  for  much  of  his  adult  life  has  dedicated    

himself  to  improving  youth  basketball  opportuniFes  for  kids  in  Southern  Arizona.  

   In  1993,  he  founded    

SporFng  Chance  Youth  Basketball,  Inc.,  a  Tucson-­‐based  501(c)(3)  organizaFon  which  quickly  became    

the  most  prominent  youth  basketball  organizaFon  in  Tucson,  providing  kids  with  a  wide  range  of    

basketball  opportuniFes,  including  tournaments,  leagues,  compeFFve  teams,  clinics,  special  events,    

coaches  clinics  and  other  programs    

In  2013,  opened  his  dream,  SporFng  Chance  Center,  a  public  private  project  with  10  volleyball  and  8  basketball  

courts
