Words to Sound OutOn the Words to Sound Out pages, words will be sounded out phonogram-by-phonogram. The word will be sounded out and then the word will be read. The new phonograms in the lesson will be highlighted within the words. Click on the word at the top each time you want to hear it sounded out.

This page will be of value for your child as they see modeled the sounding out of words. It will also show that words are made up of parts. Research shows that this is a very important part of learning to read.

When multiple-letter phonograms are in a word, your child will see that those letters are not sounded individually, but work together to make one sound.

There has always been much discussion of the danger with phonics that readers just say the sounds and don’t actually read the words. I’ve found that when children read a lot, they learn the words they see over and over to the point that the words become sight words. So make sure your child actually applies their knowledge by reading as much as possible.
