    Lesson 2: Ordering Shapes by Size

    PRIOR KNOWLEDGE: Knowledge of ordering of shapes, D Bonos Six Thinking Hats, Thinkers Keys

    KEY IDEAS:Ordering shapes by size.

    STRATEGIES: Create pictures using different sizes of the same stamp using the computer program KidPix.( or similar drawingprogram)

    STEP 1: Read a story e.g The Three Bears and

    Blackberries ( PM readers Level 6) that orders objects bysize. Discuss the size of objects related to characters.STEP2: Order different sizes of the same picture. Reorganise pictures into groups - small, medium, large. STEP 3: Teacher demonstration of KidPix (using input fromstudents) select a stamp and make it small, medium, large.Make a picture using drawing tools, small, medium largestamps.STEP 4: Students create their own pictures using different

    size stamps in the appropriate places. Pictures could berelated to story. Print pictures.STEP 5. Students w rite a stor y about their picture to sharewith the class.

    At anot her time:Extension Thinkers Keys Reverse Key. Students createanother picture using stamps but put inappropriate sizeobjects for the characters to use. Orally retell the story. Usethe Six Thinking Hats to discuss how the characters would

    feel using the inappropriate objects and what problemswould they pose for them.
