OBJECTIVES:Students will learn how to
write and type a business letter.PREPARATION:
Because of the precisenessrequired in writing an address, thissometimes becomes the mostdifficult part of a letter forstudents. First, have them practicewriting their own address. It isimportant to also provide them theopportunity to practice typing theiraddress, because on a computerthey must pay close attention tocapitalization, punctuation andspacing. If you have Internetaccess you could have them fill outa form on a webpage to send awayfor free stuff. After students have masteredtyping addresses, then they canmove on to typing letters.Learning to type letters on thecomputer is a very practical lessonthat you may have used previously,but what about asking students towrite a business letter to acompany requesting free stuff.This is a great way to motivatestudents. Many companies willsend you free product samples orpromotional materials that yourstudents could use. This is aperfect segway into a unit on shadypromotional campaigns.
