Ten Tips for Planning the Shoot

Impactful pictures tell a story which requires a balance between the technical and artistic

Tip #1 Be Prepared

Charge your camera batteries

Install new batteries for flash

Clear/format memory cards

Check condition of all equipment

Tip # 2 Know your location

Scout out your location before shooting

Select best location for picture taking, best lighting, best view

Establish your story

Tip #3 Takes tons of pictures

Review and delete if you are not happy

Takes lots of pictures

Take shot, review, change settings, shot again

It is not film, so shoot away


Tip 4 Following Shooting Rules

Rule of thirds

Leading Lines

Juxtaposition or contrast

Camera angle

Tip #5 Dress for Success

Tell your models to dress in dark colors,

Avoid light colored khaki


Tip # 6 Focus your camera

If you have AF( Autofocus) on your camera, no big deal

If you are using MF(Manual focus) pay attention

Make sure your images are in-focus

Out of focus images are useless

Tip # 7 Know your settings

ISO Settings

Exposure

Focal Length

Picture types, Raw, JPEG

White Balancing etc

Tip # 8 Lighting

Outdoor LightingShoot between 11am-1pm

Shoot in direction of the sun

Cloudy days permit all day shots

Understand front and back lighting

Tip # 8 Lighting

Indoor Lighting-Tools- Flash, Quality flash with good lithium batteries-Avoid cheap batteries

Tip 9 Avoid Too Much Clutter

Pay attention to your background, Avoid excessive clutter which is distracting to the main character

Tip # 10 Get personal

Get personal with your subject

Look for human emotion, expressive faces, gestures
