OBJECTIVES: Students will be able to: - Identify and discuss different types of pollution, their sources and their consequences. - Explain why it is important to keep the environment free of pollution. - Read and comprehend different material based on environmental issues. - Apply their prior knowledge on ecology and pollution to enlarge their work, and search the web in order to know more about them. - Have fun while using technology. LESSON ONE WARMER: The teacher will give out different brochures related to ecology and pollution issues and will ask students to give them a quick look. She will ask them different questions in order to activate students’ prior, background and cultural knowledge of the subject. For example: - How many kinds of pollution do you know? Can you name them? - In which ways is water, air or land contaminated? - Do you save energy at home? Doing what, for example? Do you think it is useful? Why?

OBJECTIVES:

Students will be able to:

LESSON ONE

WARMER:

The teacher will give out different brochures related to ecology and pollution issues and will ask students to give

them a quick look. She will ask them different questions in order to activate students’ prior, background and

cultural knowledge of the subject. For example:

- How many kinds of pollution do you know? Can you name them?

- In which ways is water, air or land contaminated?

- Do you save energy at home? Doing what, for example? Do you think it is useful? Why?

- Do you know what animals are in danger of extinction? Why?

- Do you know how rubbish is classified? Why does that help us to recycle? Do you recycle at home? What

things/objects?

- What can we do to help our planet and ecology?

Then, the teacher will ask students to have a look at the brochures again. She will ask students now to read them and to pay attention to the way in which information is organized, if there are pictures, graphs, etc. She will explained learners that they will have to do some exercises and extra research on the subject to create their own brochures to raise ecological awareness in their community.

Following the process steps, students will have to prepare brochures as final tasks. INTRODUCTION: Our planet Earth is sick. Pollution, abusive energy consumption, and deforestation are all issues that are making the temperature of the Earth go up every day. And with our planet, many animals and living beings are suffering. We will suffer too if we do not take action now. We have the opportunity to save our planet. We must do it!

TASK: Imagine you are a member of an ecological organization. Create a brochure to raise awareness about the problems that are affecting our planet. The brochure should contain information on the topic of pollution, endangered animals, energy consumption and recycling. You may also want to add some pictures, drawings, charts or graphics. Invite people to take action and help our planet Earth!

WHAT NEXT:

Student will now go back to the classroom in order to prepare the brochures. Once the brochures are finished,

students will have to present them orally to the rest of the class, explaining what information and pictures or

graphs they have selected and in what way their brochure can help to raise awareness about environmental

issues. After all the students have presented their work, they will make copies to give out in the school.
