Main Aim: Grammar: Present Perfect and Past Simple. I want students to be able to recognize that both are used to tell about the past, but that Present Perfect is used when the time is not stated, and Past Simple is used when the time is known.Secondary aim: To give students the opportunity to recognize the difference between Past Perfect and Past Simple sentence structures (written and spoken), and to use correctly Past Perfect and Past Simple sentence structures in speaking and writing about the past.Personal aim: To improve Student Talking Time (STT) and decrease Teacher Talking Time ( TTT );. To clearly illustrate and explain grammatical concepts. To improve Teacher task-cycling.Reference to course book or other material: Straightforward (STUDENT BOOK. WORKBOOK, TEACHERS BOOK); Techniques and Resources in Teaching Grammar, Celce-Murcia and Hilles, (Oxford University Press) 1988

Anticipated problems and solutions/assumptionsForm: Students might have problems mixing past perfect and past simple tenses when talking about the past. Solution is to drill students in form and give reading and writing exercises, and speaking opportunities in Pairs and Groups. Pronunciation: Contractions (Ive, Hes, Youve, etc.). Teach I have, then use fingers to show Ive. Help students recognize that contractions constitute Past Perfect when it includes pronoun + have ( + VERB).Concept/Function: That a Present Perfect tense is used to tell about the past may be confusing to students. So, students must perform the Task of successfully using the Present Perfect tense before learning the name of the tense: Explain to them that you have the present form of have used with the past participle to tell about a past event where the time is not stated. Assuming no problems with Simple Past.Instructions: Other:Asumptions: I assume the students will have difficulty with Present Perfect constructions; so exercises have been developed to help them use this effectively and recognize when Present Perfect / Past Simple use is appropriate in language use.
