LESSON PLAN

Lesson PlanLADY LIBERTY welcomed over 20million people to America through

the years 1880-1920. IMMIGRANTS came to America from Italy, Ireland, Poland, Lithuania and many more

countries around the world. THEY

CAME to escape war or violence in their own country, to escape famine, to find a place where they could worship,

live and work as they chose. THEY

BROUGHT their traditions, their cuisine, their native clothing and traditions and made America a country

filled with people of liberty.

Tell them the average yearly income in the early 1900’s was $800 dollars a year. $8 a week for men, $2 week for women, and pennies a day for children who would be found working to help support their families when they were as young as six years old. They would work up to 16 hours a day!
