Q3
Read through this article.
As you read through, give each paragraph a title.
Question 1: (Text Transformation)
You are the writer of this article.
You are giving a “Careers Talk” to a group of Year 10 students. Write the script for your speech.
In your speech, you should include: i) the benefits of being a travel writer, and ii) some of the drawbacks.
Marks = 20 /15 (one mark for each “bit” of information you include) / 5 (for communication)
Question 2: (Identifying effective phrases)
Identify effective quotes (words or phrases) that the writer uses to add description to their writing. Explain the effect of each of these quotes.
Eg.: “Hellish family vacation” – this quote effectively uses “hellish” to tell the reader that the vacation wasn’t enjoyable. This is a paradox, as vacations are usually thought of as being positive things, whereas hell is a very negative image.
Marks = 10 10 marks for each quote AND explanation that you use.
Question 3: (Compare and Summarise)
Look at this extract from “An Idiot Abroad”. The writer of Passage A and “Karl” are both paid travel writers/presenters.
Summarise the positives of being a travel writer.
Summarise the negative of being a travel writer.
Marks = 20 /15 (one mark for each “bit” of information you include) / 5 (for communication)
