• GENERAL RESEARCH• GOOD PLACE TO START
In BOTH databases…
• Default screen = ADVANCED SEARCH
• Default search = KEYWORD
• Can also search by AUTHOR, ARTICLE TITLE, PERIODICAL TITLE, and SUBJECT and any combination of those
(e.g., AUTHOR AND TITLE)
• Can use TRUNCATION – with *
In BOTH interfaces:

If you can’t find full text in…
• ProQuest • Academic Search Elite
1. Click on FindIt! Button2. See if we have it full text in any other database(s)3. If not, see if we have the periodical in print [Do a search in DuCat for PRINT holdings]4. Order the article through ILLiad (inter library loan)

Searching in ProQuest
Keyword Search
Searches for keyword terms in all the fields of the database record, as well as the article text (if available).
Author/Title Search
If you have an article citation and want to look for the full text of the article in ProQuest.
Subject SearchProQuest suggests SUBJECTS:
Can also do a SUBJECT search by using terms that ProQuestconsiders to be a SUBJECT
SUBJECT = CONTROLLED VOCABULARY

Searching in Academic Search Elite
Keyword Search
Default search is KEYWORD search.
Author/Title Search
Author last name and part of article title should do the trick.If not, add more detail – e.g., first name, more of title, etc.
Subject Search
1. Article records includeSUBJECT TERMS usedby Ebsco
2. Can browse for SUBJECT TERMS used by Ebsco
3. Can search withSUBJECT TERMS.
SUBJECT TERM = CONTROLLED VOCABULARY
List of Results
Search with NO LIMIT on article type.
Search limited to SCHOLARLY (Peer Reviewed)JOURNALS only.
