    Lesson 5

There you are , on the way to the airport. You cant wait to use what you learned in

your English classes, but there is still one question: How am I going to behave?

The answer is: be always confident, and very polite. You are one of your clients first

contact in your country . Make him have a good impression of your nation and of

    course, of you.

Below are some important tips on how to be polite and start a friendly

conversation. Before reading them, reflect over some topics:

Be polite since the beggining. Tell the client politely how long it might take to

get to your destination. Smile and try to look pleasant. Remember: confident and

talkative people generally get a better chat than those who arent.

Avoid comments such as, "Look at this horrible traffic!" It might demonstrate

you dont like your jobYour client may think you prefer being anywhere else except

    with him.

Try to start the conversation in an interesting way. Say

something that will start a long and lively conversation. For

example, asking your client about his country of origin. Obviously,

if there's a heavy storm outside, you can mention this , but avoid

comments like: What a beautiful day!

    BE POLITE !!!

Prefer using hello instead of hi. It shows how polite you are.

Give preference to good bye instead of bye for the same reason.

Shake hands firmly (but not strongly) when a client you were waiting for greets

you (your client must do it first, if he doesnt, dont do it either). Always look the

    person in the eye.

Start the conversation in a confident and soft way. Ask questions that can be

answered with more than yes or no. Look interested and listen to the answers.

WARNING: Be careful not to insult the client. Dont make racist or any

other remarks that might offend your client somehow. Respectevery culture.

    Do not talk about yourself.

In order to become a taxi driver in BH one needs to get permission

provided by the mayor of the city. This permission is given only after your

economical and technical viability is given to you. Just one vaccancy per

vehicle is allowed and for that, the vehicle must be registered in the real

drivers own name and in the place where one wants permission to work.

Whenever there is alteration of address, the driver is to contact the city

hall in order to have it done. It is also very important to know that the taxi

driver is expected to dress suitably with clothes like sleeve shirts, pants,

skirt, shoes or tennis shoes. Keep the passenger only within the limits of

the taxi stands or in areas permitted. Update the medical certification and

have the ride receit. There are just some of the hints found at the BH

Trans, the local government agency for transportation.
