Lesson 33 Complex Sentences
•Complex Sentence = 1 ½ ideas, with a comma in between them
•Example = I separated the fighting gerbils, but not in time.
Today we will learn to recognize and write our own complex sentences.

• Contains ONE idea, plus a fragment.
• My sister plays Barbies, by herself.
• There must be a comma to separate the 2 phrases
Complex Sentence
We ate too many weenies at the beach, and got stomachaches.

Now you Try……….• Write 5 complex sentences, which contain 1 ½
ideas each. You must use a comma to separate the independent clause from the subordinate clause. (= dependent clause)
