Warehousing• Part of a supply chain.• The process of storing goods within a storage facility. (warehouse)• Traditional warehousing has declined since the last decades of the
20th century, with the gradual introduction of Just In Time (JIT) techniques. The warehouses are now called distribution centres.
• Distribution centre is a warehouse or other specialized building, often with refrigeration or air conditioning, which is stocked with products (goods) to be redistributed to retailers, to wholesalers, or directly to consumers.
• Distribution centres are usually thought of as being demand driven.• A distribution centre can also be called a warehouse, a DC, a
fulfilment centre, a cross-dock facility, a bulk break centre, and a package handling centre.
Warehouse• A warehouse is a commercial building for storage of goods.• used by manufacturers, importers, exporters, wholesalers,
transport businesses, customs, etc. • usually large plain buildings in industrial areas of cities and
towns and villages. • designed for the loading and unloading of goods directly from
railways, airports, or seaports. • often used cranes and forklifts for moving goods, which are
usually placed on ISO standard pallets loaded into pallet racks.• stored goods can include any raw materials, packing materials,
