Destination: AspirationThis project covers BTEC Module 8: Undertake and Review Work Related Experience in the Land-based Industries.This module aims to provide learners with an opportunity to plan for, take part in and review work placements.By the end of this year, you must complete a minimum of 300 hours work placement.Those will be allocated as follows:60 hours practical husbandry on the AMU140 hours zoo project100 hours work placement in your own time

Lesson Aims:The aim of this session is to introduce you to this module and answer any questions you may have.By the end of this session, you will be able to:State the learning aims for this moduleExplain the importance of work experienceIdentify different areas of the animal industry that you could work in as part of this course

Module OutcomesThere are four outcomes to this module:Understand the opportunities in the environmental and land-based industriesBe able to prepare for a work-based experience in the environmental and land-based industryBe able to undertake a work-based experience in the environmental and land-based industryBe able to review a work-based experience in the environmental and land-based sector.

Outcome 3: Be able to undertake a work-based experience in the environmental and land-basedindustryIn this outcome, you will carry out 300 work placement hours.Work to achieve the targets you have set for yourselfComplete a work placement diary or journal

Outcome 4: Be able to review a work-based experience in the environmental and land-based sectorIn this outcome, you will review the placements that you have undertaken and evaluate how well you think you did.

AssessmentIn this project, there are 8 pass, 3 merit and 2 distinction criteria.Two of the assessments will be based on your skills and your experience.The grade you achieve is not based on the work experience you have done (although you do have to have the minimum number of hours in order to pass).

Assessment 1The Animal IndustryThis assessment covers P1 & M1 and will help you to learn about the different jobs available to you when you have finished your education.

Assessment 2Applying for a JobThis assessment covers P2, P3, P4, M2In this assessment, you will apply for a work placement and complete the application process.You will then take part in an interview for a job.Finally, you will set targets for yourself to work towards whilst on placement.

Assessment 3Work PlacementThis assessment covers P5, P6 & D1.This assessment will be running throughout this academic year as this assessment requires you to complete 300 hours work placement.

Assessment 4My Work Placement ReviewThis assessment covers P7, P8, M3 & D2.To achieve these criteria, you will produce a presentation on the work placement(s) that you have completed this year.This presentation will then be presented to the rest of the group.

Online LearningThis module will be delivered entirely online with no face to face teaching.Each week, you will watch a short lesson which include quiz question and short activities which will help you with your assessment.Each week, I will monitor your participation in these tasks and give feedback.

AssessmentFormativeGives you feedback on how you are progressing.Prepares you for your assessment.

SummativeThe work you submit for your final grade.It is important that you complete all formative and summative assessments throughout this and all other modules.

The Land Based IndustryWhat do we mean by Land Based Industry?Any jobs which involve the natural world.

What sectors can you think of within the Land Based Industry?

The Land Based IndustryProduction (livestock, crops),Leisure/tourism, Equestrian, Forestry/arboriculture, Fishery management, Aquaculture, Farriery, Floristry,

Fencing, Game keeping, Animal care/welfare, Conservation, Countryside management, Land-based engineering, Landscaping and horticulture

This Weeks Task...I would like you to spend a few minutes looking into placements that you could do whilst you are studying Animal Care.On 3D Learning, you will find a link to a Padlet that I have set up.Once you have done your research, add a note on the Padlet sharing what you have found.I have added a note to get you started.If you have researched a placement and someone has already added it to the Padlet, look up another. I would like as many different placements as possible!Make sure you add your name to your note so that I can give you feedback.
