The students are exposed to a variety of unique experiences, such as, trips to the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Prologue performances, Salsa, and Dance Clubs. In addition, various resources have been brought to Lescon (e.g. African Ghanian Drums, Gamelon Orchestra, Director’s Cut, Gallery 44, Dance and Play Studios, and a recorder itinerant instructor) to enrich our students learning. The Lescon students are excited to demonstrate their new talents during performances and monthly assemblies. Lescon Public School is located in the Sheppard and Leslie area. Lescon offers Full Day Kindergarten and a junior gifted program. The school services students representing many ethnic and cultural backgrounds. The staff encourages these differences and believe that all students have the right to be accepted for their individuality. Lescon staff and community believe that all students deserve: the best education possible, to reach their full potential, a safe, caring and stimulating school environment, the opportunity to grow into responsible, caring and respectful citizens. Responsible Citizenship Lescon works together to recognize and support positive, respectful behaviours. Through monthly character education assemblies, students are recognized and valued for their contributions to our school community. One initiative at Lescon is the infusion of the Second Step Program throughout every grade. Second Step fosters empathy building, problem solving and conflict resolution. We have consistent expectations among students and staff with regards to respectful and responsible behaviour. Lescon students support and get involved in helping others. At Lescon, students embrace character education and infuse it into their everyday actions.

Community LinksOfficer Neil is our valued community liaison officer. He informs allstudents on how to be street smart and safety conscious. He worksclosely with our grade 6 students through the Values, Influencesand Peers Program.New families to Canada gain support from our SEPT workers. TheSEPT project connects families to settlement services in thecommunity and school system.

Eco-club LeadersLescon P.S. is going GREEN! Our Green Club has createdEco-leaders thoughout our school. Student leaders haveopportunities to educate their peers, staff, and community onreducing waste, recycling, and encouraging litterless lunches.Through their hard work and efforts, Lescon has achieved a Bronzecertification from Eco Schools.

Building Successful StudentsLescon has many resources and supports in place to enhancestudent success. To support our students' learning, teachers utilizethe Resource Centre which includes the library, computer lab andthe Smart Board. The math and literacy rooms provide manyresources to support programming and success in the classroom.

Lescon LearnersHoused in the school is Lescon Learners, a community based childcare centre for both preschoolers and school aged children from7:15 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., five days a week. Call (416) 499-7325.

Student Life - Where You Belong

 Students are supported by many staff, such as the SpecialEducation Team, Reading Recovery program, GuidanceCounsellor, Social Worker, Early Reading Interventionprogram, English Language Learner Teacher, and Literacyand Math Coaches. The teachers at Lescon are committedto providing opportunities to develop the whole child througha variety of extra curricular activities, for example, LegoRobotics, house leagues, track and field, reading clubs,French club, game club, dance, drama, and artactivities; just to name a few. Student Leaders are everywhere at Lescon P.S.! You canfind our leaders working in the office, library, andlunchrooms. Energetic students lead our Daily PhysicalActivity in each of the classrooms. Our Safety Patrollerskeep our students safe while walking to and from schooldaily.

Lescon P.S. has built many relationships within our community. Wefrequently access Fairview Public Library, local parks, field trips tovisit Outdoor Education Centres, neighbouring schools, and manyToronto locations. We also host the International Language Programwithin our building. Our parent community supports our studentsthrough Lescon School Advisory Council, volunteering for programssuch as Scientist in the Schools, reading support, Mystery Readers,Book Bags, field trips, Engineer in Residence, and weeklyclassroom support.
