Matt Prather Currently a member of the San Francisco Gay Menʼs Chorus and theGolden Gate Menʼs Chorus, Matt canʼt remember a time when performing wasnʼt aprimary focus in his life. For the past 32 years, Mattʼs bass-baritone voice has narratedpublic service announcements, airport-subway recordings and automated telephonesystems (which he also designs), sung and acted opera, operetta and musicaltheatre, been part ofvarious choruses, and even helped him in the Great HusbandHunt. Mattʼs choral/orchestral compositions and arrangements have been performedby Seattle Menʼs Chorus, Sacramento Menʼs Chorus, Denver Menʼs Chorus, CincinnatiMenʼs Chorus, Seattle Womenʼs Chorus, Twin Cities Gay Menʼs Chorus, and the SanFrancisco Gay Manʼs Chorus. He is delighted and honoured to be making his debutperformance with the SF Lesbian/Gay Freedom Band tonight.

Singers of the Street (S.O.S.) is a new choir for people who are homeless ordisadvantaged, and those who support them. Their first rehearsal was September 8thand tonight is their first public appearance. The mission of S.O.S. is to raise voices forjustice, healing and joy. Directed by Dr. Kathleen McGuire, S.O.S. is modeled on similar choirs operating in Australia and the UK. S.O.S. meets at 150 Eureka Street near18th Street in the Castro every Wednesday, 11 am - 1 pm, and a free lunch is provided.All are welcome! S.O.S. is supplemented tonight by members of the MetropolitanCommunity Church’s Choir of Many Names, directed by Ryan Connolly, and the MCCWorship and Praise Team directed by Stephanie Lynne Smith. Jadine Louie is a teacher, conductor, and performer’s coach. A proponent of thearts as a vital part of community health and a way to move from rhetoric or apathy toaction, she was named the Bay Guardian’s Best Justification for Music in the Schools.Conducting and coaching credits include: Team Band at the Chicago Gay Games,Oakland Civic Orchestra, Symphonic Tornado Wind Ensemble, All-City Honor Orchestra,SF Recreation Symphony, Swingfever Big Band, Bay Area Women’s Philharmonic,Golden Gate Opera, Women’s Community Orchestra, and Prometheus Symphony.

SFLGFB was founded in 1978 by Jon Sims at the height of Anita Bryant’s anti-gaycrusade. The world’s first openly gay music organization, the Band inspired the formationof lesbian and gay bands, choruses and performing troupes around the world.
