Thursday 7 th February 2019 Dear Pupils, Parents and Carers, This week was Children's Mental Health Week. At Leopold Primary School we recognise the importance of our pupils’ emotional well-being and mental health. As such, we have a team of committed therapists working at both sites to support pupils and empower them to discover their potential and thrive. Our therapists provide creative therapy for pupils (individuals and groups). Creative therapy is the psychotherapeutic use of creative arts, play and movement to assist the integration of emotional, social, cognitive and physical aspects of self. Attending to both verbal and nonverbal communication, creative therapy aims to: support the exploration of emotions and ideas; promote self- regulation; develop self-awareness (including body awareness); facilitate the safe expression of feelings; build confidence; and nurture a healthy self-image and sense of worth. Pupils have been out and about exploring London this week. Year 4 visited the British Museum, Year 1 the Natural History Museum and Reception the RAF Museum. A big thank you to our parents and teachers for making these educational trips possible. The Brent Breathe Clean team project met with the Hawkshead Road pupils this week, completing their visit across both sites. Pupils are training to be eco reps and have placed air quality test tubes across the school, which will be monitored. Metro Bank have been working with Leopold this week to learn about money management and having good money sense. Please see an update from a pupil on the back of this newsletter. All the Year 4 pupils traveling to France next week met at Hawkshead Road today for their final workshop. Chalkhill pupils were also in attendance. They will be travelling to the North of France on Tuesday 12 th -14 th February. On Monday 11th at 3.30pm we are holding a planning meeting with Brent to finalise arrangements for the remodelling of the front entrance of the Hawkshead Road site. Please contact Mr Anil, if you would like to attend. (Email: [email protected] Tel: 0208 961 5336) All parents are invited to the half termly Parent Forum next week Wednesday 13th February. There will be a meeting at 9:00am at Hawkshead and a meeting at Gwenneth Rickus at 3.30pm. Finally, please ensure that your child knows their home address. We have come across a number of pupils who do not actually know their family name house number or road and post code. This information is important for your child to know especially in an emergency.

Dear Pupils, Parents and Carers,

Unfortunately, snow fell on Friday which meant that some families did not come to school. This has had a significant impact on our attendance which was beginning to improve. Please can we all work together to lift our attendance to national expectations of 96%. Thank you to all staff and pupils who made a huge effort to come to school.

Next week is the last week of school before half term. School will end on Friday 15 th at the usual time of 3.30pm. There will be no afterschool club on that day.

A special Valentine Cake sale with a grand prize will be held after school on Thursday 14th Februrary, Valentine's day. Parents are invited to bake and donate cakes and bring to the school office from Wednesday 13th.

Thank you to Taylon for leading on this idea at GR and to 4 Hazel Class leading at Hawkshead.

Childrens Mental Health Week- Imago

In classes this week there was a focus on children’s mental health and being healthy inside and out. Emily, from the Imago team, came to classrooms to offer circle time to pupils to discuss their feelings, express their emotions creatively and discussed how to change big emotions.

Pupils explored how like a plant, we all have basic physical needs of food, water, sun that support our growing healthy and happy. The need for community, friendship, respect, excitement and a sense of achievement to grow mentally and emotionally healthy was a main focus of discussions. Classrooms were encouraged to look after and water their emotional health like they were taking care of a special plant.
