Work  by  a  variety  of  ar;sts  whose  work  we  saw  at  Leigh  on  Sea  where  we  visited  to  take  photographs  and  experiment  with  pain;ng  and  using  graphic  pencils.

Influences  of  Steve  Robson  Paul  Nash   Edward  Hopper

Samuel  Palmer   I  chose  these  3  pictures  by  Paul  Nash,  Edward    Hopper  and  Samuel  Palmer  as  they  use  similar  techniques  to  Stephen  Robson  such  as  the  colours  printed  and  the  tones  used  in  the  pictures.

Stephen  Robson  •  Stephen  Robson  joined  Greenwich  Printmakers  in  2010.  He  went  to

goldsmith’s.  college  and  has  a  background  in  teaching  and  working  in  photography.  He  is  strongly  drawn  to  the  work  of  ar;sts  such  as  Samuel  Palmer,  Edward  Hopper  and  Paul  Nash.  The  Thames  estuary    and  the  coast  of  Norfolk  and  Suffolk  have  been  favourite  subjects.

•  I  have  chosen  these  images  as  I  like  the  dull  and  gloomy  colours  used.  I  also  like  the  lack  of  details  in  the  images,  giving  it  more  of  a  simple  but  effec;ve  look  to  it.  The  lack  of  colour  makes  it  much  more  effec;ve  making  it  more  gloomy.

•  Steven  Robson  uses  etching    and  mono-‐prin;ng  as  a  technique,  and  possibly  water  colour  or  prin;ng  ink  to  add  to  the  picture.  In  a  lot  of  his  images  he  has  an  object  or  a  place  that  your  eye  is  drawn  to.  In  some  examples  the  sea  or  sky  are  the  eye  catching  bit.

Diana  CroV  Diana  Cro)  is  a  painter  and  printmaker  who  specializes  in  making  hand-‐produced  collographs  in  small  edi;ons.  The  prints  are  richly  coloured  and  textured,  oVen  using  layers  of  hand-‐made  papers  and  gold  and  silver-‐leaf.  Although  given  edi;on  numbers,  the  prints  all  vary  resul;ng  in  each  one  being  a  unique  piece.  I  like  the  images  I  have  chosen  as  the  Images  below  as  the  colours  stand  out  and  they  are  very  eye  catching.  I  also  like  the  images  chosen  as  they  are  similar  to  my  pictures  and  are  the  same  style  to  my  pieces  of  work.  I  also  like  the  use  of  heavy  tone  and  line  use  in  the  pictures  of  which  I  have  chosen.  I  like  the  style  of  using  =ssue  paper  for  colour.  There  would  be  other  subjects  I  would  rather  be  interested  in  as  all  of  her  work  is  themed  on  the  country  side  and  my  work  is  set  on  the  sea  side  such  as  Leigh-‐on  sea  therefore  the  work  is  slightly  different  to  my  work.    Diana  Cro)  uses  composi=on  due  to  her  colour  balance  as  she  creates  a  feeling  of  distance  in  the  picture  as  the  background  uses  a  lot  lighter  colours  to  the  front  of  the  picture.
