COFFEE – HEALTH AND SAFETY
Legislation and Establishment Requirements Rules about how coffee drinks should be
prepared, extracted and served. Each establishment (or cafe) will have its own
guidelines as well to maintain standards. Also laws and legislation:
The Food Act 1981The Heath and Safety in Employment Act 1992Food Hygiene Regulations 1974
The Food Act 1981 Illegal to sell any food or drink not fit for
human consumption or that is contaminated.
Personal hygiene and sound food storage and preparation.
Packaging needs to be fit for purpose. Food labelling – cannot be inaccurate and
misleading.
The Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992 Prevent harm to employees or others
while at work. Hazards need to b e identified and needs
to me Eliminated, Minimised or Controlled. Hazard is any activity, occurrence or
situation which is or could be a source of harm (physical or mental).
The Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992 Employees can be held responsible! You must ensure that “no action or inaction
of yours causes harm to any other person.” You are covered if what you do is in
accordance with the establishment’s requirements and with legislation (your employer is responsible for your training).
