Winding coastal roads lead south towards the famousport of Genova. The superior dynamism and load handlingcapability of the double wishbone suspension reducesbody roll and movement producing a comfortable ridearound every bend. With a rigidly strong, super lightaluminium frame and carbon fibre drive shaft, theLegend’s bodyweight has been kept in check providing anextra responsiveness you’d normally expect from a sportscar. It’s for this reason exceptional stopping power comesas standard – large ventilated all-wheel disc brakes with4 piston front callipers give the immediate control youneed. Countless voyages of discovery have set off fromGenova’s ports, making it an appropriate setting for thecontinuation of our own journey of discovery. Years ofengine design and refinement have led to the Legendboasting the most powerful V6 engine in its class, goingfrom 0-100km/h in 7.3 seconds and a top speedelectronically limited to 250km/h. And with the bestinnovations, comes consideration. The power deliveredby the 3.7 litre, all aluminium 24-valve unit is temperedby Honda’s VTEC technology. Variable Valve Timing &Lift Electronic Control (VTEC) adjusts valves tooptimise performance at high rpm and increaseefficiency at lower speeds. All this power andtechnology is controlled through the new 5-speedautomatic transmission for a relaxing, stress free drivewith the option of a paddle shift function. This allowsfor manual, quick gear changes whilst keeping yourhands on the wheel. For a sportier drive select the S-mode where the paddle shift takes over and the gearchanges are made faster with the gearbox automaticallyselecting a lower gear. Intelligent sensors establish which wheelsneed the most traction and can split up to 70% ofthe engine’s torque across the front wheels or inhard cornering, up to 100% torque to anindividual rear wheel. It’s hard to visualise Michelangelo’s David as it once was; a blockcarved from Carrara’s famous marble quarry. It can take a uniquevision to create something extraordinary, a vision Honda’s designershad when creating safety features for the Legend that are anythingbut ordinary. A millimetre wave radar, mounted behind the front grille,monitors the position and speed of vehicles ahead allowing theAdaptive Cruise Control (ACC) to keep you at a constant safedistance. The next logical step is to help prevent possible collisionscenarios and Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS) does justthat. Visual and audible warnings, automatic tightening of seatbelts,light to severe braking and constant monitoring all combine to giveyou an extra control in a situation normally out of your control.

Through a series of sensors recording lateral G-forces, engine speed, individual wheel speed and steering angle, SH-AWDcalculates how best to distribute the engine’s torque over the four wheels for the best grip. Up to 70% of the torque is splitacross the front wheels when cruising but when cornering sharply the system can, if required, send all of the V6 engine’storque to the rear wheels. Electromagnetic clutches distribute the power individually to the left and right rear wheels and cansend up to 100% of the torque to the outer rear wheel. The result of this system is the optimum grip and stability, and itdelivers the cornering performance of a sports car.

ABS

If conditions are wet, icy or the surface you’re driving on is unstable, maintaining control is crucial. By preventing wheel lockand skidding, the Legend’s Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) is the control you need.

EBD

The Electronic Brake-force Distribution system (EBD) automatically analyses weight dispersal during braking and adjusts theABS and brake force to each wheel to provide even greater stability when you need it most.

2. Precautions: CMBS applies light braking and tightens the driver’s seatbelt if thedistance between vehicles continues to drop. Buzzer and warning signs are still active.

3. Action: If a collision is unavoidable, strong seatbelt retraction will automatically beapplied to provide maximum protection for front seat occupants before applying brakesto reduce impact speed.

Active and Passive NoiseControl Legend uses a combination ofActive and Passive noise controls todeliver a serene travelling environment.

Active Noise Cancellation (ANC)Active noise control is achieved inLegend’s interior using the Active NoiseCancellation (ANC) system whichconstantly generates opposite or reversephase sounds. It is these sounds thatactively cancel out-of-phase soundsdelivering a cabin which is a calmsoothing place to be. The system is madeup of 2 microphones with an active headunit. The microphones constantly ‘listen’for undesirable noise within the vehiclecabin. These sounds are analysed andthe head unit sends out the opposite orreverse phase sounds to cancel theundesirable noise.

Active Front Lighting System(AFS) To aid vision on twisting roads,Legend’s Active Front Lighting System(AFS) can peer deeper into a bend, eachheadlight swivelling by up to 20 degrees toilluminate the corner ahead. For the driver,this delivers a better, earlier sight, enablingthem to spot potential hazards in advance.

Advanced 5-Speed SequentialSportshift AutomaticTransmission Offering theconvenience of a conventional automatic,or the pleasure of manual gear changes,this sophisticated transmission deliversoptions to suit all driving styles. Moving thelever into the Sequential Sport Shift gateselects manual mode. Engaging this modeallows gear changes to be made by eithernudging the gear lever forward or reverseor by using the steering wheel mountedpaddle shifters. Using the paddles allowsthe driver to change gear without takingtheir hands from the steering wheel. Bothgear change methods allow the driver toup shift or down shift through the gearbox.The transmission rapidly processes inputsfrom the driver and communicates with theDrive-By-Wire (DBW) throttle system toenable very brisk gear changes.

Anti-lock Braking System (ABS)ABS prevents the wheels from lockingwhen the brakes are applied in anemergency, reducing the possibility of askid on wet, icy or loose surfaces, and enabling the driver to retain steering control.

Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) ACC uses information from a millimetrewave radar mounted inside the front grilleto measure the distance to the vehicleahead, while vehicle speed and yaw ratesensors detect the vehicle's drivingparameters. In addition to maintaining a set speed, ACC is also able toautomatically regulate both the vehiclespeed and its distance to the vehicleahead travelling in the same lane, therebyreducing the burden of motorway (or similar road) driving and enhancingdriver comfort and safety.

ACC only operates if all the followingconditions are fully fulfilled:- the vehicle speed is set between 30 and

180km/h- main switch is activated

Advanced CompatibilityEngineering (ACE) Legend has beendesigned with an innovative framestructure engineered to reduce theconcentrated frontal force on occupants infront end impacts. Legend's AdvancedCompatibility Engineering (ACE) designdisperses and absorbs crash energy overa larger area enhancing the preservation ofthe cabin space, improving safety for alloccupants. Additionally, ACE also helps toreduce misalignment with vehicles ofdifferent sizes. The design of Legend'sstructure reduces impact forces actingupon other vehicles including the smallestof super-minis.

Aerodynamics Aerodynamics refers tothe ability of a car to overcome theresistance or 'drag' generated by its bodyas it moves through the atmosphere. Thelower the Coefficient of Drag (Cd) the moreaerodynamic the shape. An aerodynamicshape is more fuel efficient, quieter andkeeps the car firmly on the road. The Cdvalue multiplied by the cross section areaof the car is the wind drag of the car.

Bluetooth® The Bluetooth® Hands FreeTelephone (HFT) system enables drivers tomake and receive calls without taking theirhands off the wheel. An in car speakerand microphone system operated viasteering wheel controls allows calls to bemade safely whilst driving.

BOSE® premium 10-speakersurround sound systemThis audio system has been developedand tuned specifically for Legend to deliverthe best possible aural experience. Ten

BOSE® speakers have been strategicallypositioned throughout the cabin to provideperfect audio imaging. The systemfeatures an in-dash CD/DVD Audio 6-discchanger. While the system can playnumerous formats, its full capabilities arerealised with media using the 5.1 surroundsound protocol. Powered by a 260-watt, 8 channel digital amplifier with BOSE®

Centerpoint processing, even CDs can beenjoyed in simulated surround sound.

Collision Mitigation BrakingSystem (CMBS) CMBS has beenspecifically designed to help alert thedriver of an impending collision or - if it'sunavoidable - to reduce the severity ofimpact by automatically applying thebrakes if a collision is detected. The “eye”of the system is a radar transmittermounted behind Legend’s grille. A radarsignal is constantly transmitted and thereturn echo evaluated. If the systemdetects a vehicle or obstruction in theroad, it determines the distance andclosing speed. If the closing speed goesabove the threshold, the systemimmediately alerts the driver with a flashingindicator on the instrument panel and anaudible alarm. If the driver takes no actionto reduce speed, the system willautomatically tug at the driver's seatbeltand lightly apply the brakes. At the pointwhen the system senses that a frontalcollision is inevitable and the driver has stilltaken no avoidance action, both of thefront seatbelts are retracted tightly andstrong braking is applied automatically.This automatic action is designed to lowerimpact speed and help reduce vehicledamage and the severity of personal injury.

Electronic Brake-forceDistribution (EBD) This works intandem with ABS analysing weightdistribution around the car andautomatically adjusting the braking forceapplied to front and rear wheels to helpmaintain directional stability.

Ergonomics Ergonomics is the appliedscience of designing a workingenvironment, in this case the car's cabin,in order to maximise the occupants’comfort and safety. In simple terms, thatmeans locating major controls andinstruments in a way that makes themeasy and comfortable to use and to see.This is extended to seating whichminimises driver fatigue and discomfort.

Front double wishbonesuspension This exceptionalsuspension set up has been used tomaximise the tyre’s contact with the roadsurface, helping to ensure excellentcornering traction in all conditions allied tothe Super Handling-All Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) system. Additionally, steeringprecision is enhanced due to exceptionalcamber control. Cornering forces, roadbumps, and even vertical travel can “steer”the wheels off the driver’s intendedcourse. This design helps keep camberchange to an absolute minimum.

Front and Side Curtain AirbagsWorking with a sturdy chassis and 3-pointseatbelts, Legend employs dual-stage,dual threshold front airbags that, in asufficient impact, deploy at two rates andthresholds, depending on impact severityand seatbelt use.

Grade Logic An intelligent system builtinto our 5-speed automatic transmissions.When the Legend is in fully automaticmode, Grade Logic recognises differentdriving styles and road conditions, thenselects the optimum gear ratio for smooth,seamless driving, particularly over hillyroutes and through corners.

High Intensity Discharge (HID)headlights Instead of a bulb, the sealedHID headlights contain xenon gas. An electric spark (arc) passing through thegas produces an even, true-white lightwith a higher intensity than conventionalhalogen units for improved visibility.

Occupant Position DetectionSystem (OPDS) Legend’s front sideairbags feature Occupant PositionDetection System (OPDS) on thepassenger side to prevent deployment if asmall stature passenger is out of positionand in the airbag’s path. The side airbagsteam with side curtain airbags to provide a high level of protection in a sufficient side impact.

Passive Noise ControlWhilst most luxury cars use heavy soundinsulation, to further cut weight, Legenduses a lightweight sound absorptionconcept. This material is placed behindthe dashboard, and in the floor, roof, frontwings and bonnet to absorb sound beforeit enters Legend’s cabin. Additionally, windnoise reduction has been achieved byhiding the windscreen wipers and ensuringthe side windows and centre pillars are

fully flush with the side of the Legend. Afinal element in Legend’s Passive NoiseControl is the Variable Valve Silencer whichis part of the exhaust system. This featurereduces the noise of exhaust gasescoming from the exhaust pipe whilst at thesame time increasing engine power.

Rear & side window sunshades To maintain a comfortable environment forrear seat passengers, Legend is equippedwith an electronic sunshade. This featurecan be operated by the driver from theoverhead console. Legend is alsoequipped with rear side sunshades whichcan be manually operated by rearpassengers. The woven mesh of both therear and side sunshades reduces heatpenetration into the cabin but still allowsvisibility to the side and the rear.

Retractable rear seat headrestraints Legend’s rear seat isequipped with three head restraints forsafety. When the rear is empty ofpassengers, the driver can lower the headrestraints by means of a control in theoverhead console. Rear passengers canmanually return the head restraints to theirupright positions when required.

Satellite Navigation system withvoice recognition The Satellite linked,DVD-based Navigation system deliversturn-by-turn directions by voice andmoving map display all the way to yourdestination. The DVD also contains pointsof interest such as service stations if youshould require them in an unfamiliar area.The system can recognise over 550 voicecommands - including many operationsfor the audio and climate control systems -so the driver can make adjustmentswithout taking their hands off the steering wheel.

Super Handling-All Wheel Drive(SH-AWD) This incredible system isdesigned to realise the driver’s intent. Thesystem offers benefits to all drivers in allroad conditions – dry, wet, icy or otherwise.On slippery surfaces, Super Handling-AllWheel Drive (SH-AWD) will direct power tothe wheel with the most traction. Whiledriving on straight stretches of road or inmoderate corners, up to 70% of enginetorque can be sent to the front wheels tooptimise traction. During hard cornering,it’s possible to direct all of the power(100%) to the rear outside wheel. Then,that wheel is mechanically accelerated tocreate additional cornering force. This

translates to additional cornering stability,greater precision and neutral steeringdynamics.

3.7 Litre, 24 Valve VTEC V6engine Legend’s engine is packed withsome of the most advanced technologyavailable in road going cars. Before Hondaintroduced VTEC (Variable Valve Timingand Lift Electronic Control), engine tuningwas always a compromise balancing lowend torque against high-end power.Legend’s VTEC engine has allowedHonda’s engineers to deliver an enginewith no compromises. Legend’s 3.7 LitreV6 delivers both low-end torque (Max373Nm) and high-end power (Max295PS). Legend’s incredible VTEC enginedelivers this power and torque by usingtwo completely different camshaft profilesgiving the engine incredible flexibility andresponse in all situations. At low speeds,one cam profile provides lower valve liftand shorter opening duration to providehigh gas velocities and greater low-endtorque. As engine speed increases, VTECswitches to a cam profile with higher valvelift and longer opening duration. Thisallows greater airflow and, as a result, a large boost in high-end horsepower.

Torque Torque is a twisting or rotationalforce. For example, when you use aspanner to tighten a bolt, you are actuallyapplying torque to turn the bolt. The furtherout you hold the spanner, the more torqueyou apply. Low rev torque is the ability ofan engine to develop strong response(rotational force), and hence, accelerationfrom lower revs and speeds. As speedrises, torque becomes less important thanpower for maintaining high speeds.

Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA)VSA helps keep the Legend on courseduring fast or tight turns by detecting andcorrecting potential understeer or oversteer.The system continually monitors vehiclespeed, throttle position, individual wheelspeeds, steering angle, lateral G-force,and yaw rate to detect when oversteer orundersteer is imminent. When necessary,VSA automatically reduces the engine'storque and uses the ABS system to apply brakes to each wheel, as needed,to help stabilise the vehicle. The responseis so quick that the instability may becorrected before the driver even knows it's occurring.
