• A person who is trained to help people understand the law and who acts and speaks for them in court.


Legal Secretary

• Assists a lawyer by keeping records and performing general office work in law offices.


Case, Action, Suit or Lawsuit

• A legal disagreement brought into court for trial.


Court

• A place where legal cases are heard and decided.

– A judge is in charge of the court.


Oath

• A serious, formal promise.


Motion

• A formal suggestion made in front of a judge in a court of law.


Appeal • To ask for a decision, that was

made by a court of law, to be changed.

• Written instructions stating what should happen to a person’s property and money when that person dies.

• Statements that are made under oath (and written down) where a witness is able to tell their side of the story. This is done before the trial starts.

• To make a written copy of recorded material by longhand (pen or paper) or by a machine (computer).
