HemispheresRight-brain/ left-brain dominance theoryThe right side of the brain is best at expressive and creative tasks

The left-side of the brain is considered to be adept at tasks that involve logic, language and analytical thinking

Does this mean that each hemisphere is the “master” at their tasks?
No, studies are now finding that the hemispheres MUST WORK TOGETHER.
Both the right and left work together to solve math problems
The left is used to recognize the sounds that form words and working out the syntax of the words, but the right recognizes the emotions behind the language
Epilepsy Epilepsy is a group of related disorders characterized by a tendency for recurrent seizures.
Abnormal electrical activity in the brain
Can be dangerous
Roger Sperry
With the help of "split brain" patients, he carried out experiments, and for the first time in history, knowledge about the left and right hemispheres was revealed.when the corpus callosum was cut off it was made possible for the patients to live a normal life after the operation. It was only when carrying out these experiments one could notice their somewhat "odd behavior."
Aphasia Wernicke’sAphasia
Language disorder resulting from damage to the parts of the brain that manage language
Two types:
Wernicke’s
Broca’s
Individuals with Wernicke’saphasia may speak in long sentences that have no meaning, add unnecessary words, and even create new “words.”Individuals with Wernicke’saphasia usually have great difficulty understanding speech and are therefore often unaware of their mistakes. These individuals usually have no body weakness because their brain injury is not near the parts of the brain that control movement
Example of sentence with a patient with Wernicke’s Aphasia
“You know that smoodle pinkeredand that I want to get him round and take care of him like you want before,”
meaning “The dog needs to go out so I will take him for a walk.”
