    EA Prerequisite 2:

    Minimum Energy Performance

    Required

Intent:Establish the minimumlevel of energy efficiency forthe proposed building andsystems.

    Requirements:*

Design the building project tocomply with both

    the mandatory provisions(Sections 5.4, 6.4, 7.4, 8.4,9.4 and 10.4) of ASHRAE/IESNA Standard 90.1-2004(without amendments); and

the prescriptive require-ments (Sections 5.5, 6.5,7.5 and 9.5) or performancerequirements (Section 11) of

    ASHRAE/IESNA Standard90.1-2004 (without amend-ments).

    Related Eaton Solutions:

    Pow-R-CommandLighting Controls

Incorporating use of creativecontrols such as occupancysensors, timers and daylightharvesting systems will assistin reducing building energyconsumption.

    Uninterruptible PowerSystems (UPS)

High efficiency of 95 percentreduces total energy lossesby more than 50% when com-pared to traditional UPSs.

    Variable Frequency Drives

Incorporating use of variablefrequency drives on HVAC sys-tem components such as fansand pump motors provides forsignificantly improved

    efficiency, energy savings

and optimization. The energysavings can be dramatic. For example, the speed of acentrifugal fan reduced byonly 1/3 will save over 70%in energy consumption.

    Power Factor CorrectionCapacitors and Filters

Power factor correction savesenergy and can also reducethe required sizes of electri-cal equipment due to lowerkVA. Power factor correctionenables your organization tobecome more environmentally

responsible without reducingthe amount of working poweravailable. This correspondsto additional savings inmaterial costs that wouldhave been used to producelarger electrical equipmentand distribution systems.

As part of a power factorcorrection system, harmonicfilters resolve the poweranomalies caused by harmon-ics that shorten equipmentlife and trigger unexpectedshutdowns. By controlling har-monics, current levels in thesystem are reduced, and heatis removed from the system. This, in turn, minimizes trou-blesome issues such as blownfuses, damaged motors, andfailed transformers extendingequipment life.

    Busway

Busway sized to carry thesame current as cable willhave lower losses, improveenergy performance and it canalso be reconfigured easily asneeds change.

    Related Eaton Solutions:

    Pow-R-CommandLighting Controls

Programming of the lightingcontrols and any daylight-ing control aspects of thelighting system must becommissioned for optimalperformance. Eaton provides awide variety of services frominitial design consultation tostart-up, commissioning andon-going monitoring.

    Variable Frequency Drives

    Used as a commissioning

tool, software associated withEatons Variable FrequencyDrives can verify installationand performance character-istics of the buildings HVACsystems especially when usedin conjunction with PowerXpert metering and software.

    Integrated PowerAssemblies (IPA)

Intent:Achieve increasinglevels of energy performanceabove the baseline in the pre-requisite standard to reduce

environmental and economicimpacts associated withexcessive energy use.

    Requirements:*

Select one of the threecompliance path options.Project teams documentingachievement using any of thethree options are assumedto be in compliance with EAPrerequisite 2.

NOTE: LEED for NewConstruction projects regis-tered after June 26th, 2007 arerequired to achieve at least

    two (2) points under EAc1.

OPTION 1 WHOLEBUILDING ENERGYSIMULATION (110 Points)

Demonstrate a percentageimprovement in the proposedbuilding performance ratingcompared to the baselinebuilding performance ratingper ASHRAE/IESNA Standard90.1-2004 (without amend-ments) by a whole buildingproject simulation using theBuilding Performance RatingMethod in Appendix G of the

    Standard.

Intent:Encourage and rec-ognize increasing levels ofon-site renewable energyself-supply in order to reduce

environmental and economicimpacts associated with fossilfuel energy use.

    Requirements:*

Use on-site renewable energysystems to offset buildingenergy cost. Calculate projectperformance by expressingthe energy produced by therenewable systems as a per-centage of the building annualenergy cost to determine thenumber of points achieved.

Use the building annualenergy cost calculated

in EA Credit 1 or use theDepartment of Energy (DOE)Commercial Buildings EnergyConsumption Survey (CBECS)database to determine theestimated electricity use.

    Related Eaton Solutions:

    Power XpertSoftwareand Meters

Recognizing that the use ofon-site renewable energy willrequire a means to measure

the percentage of buildingenergy requirements, PowerXpert meters and software canmeter and provide the back-bone of load control, mea-surement and monitoring foron-site power sources. Whenapplying renewable energy, every effort should be made totake advantage of net meter-ing with the local utility.

    Related Eaton Solutions:

    Pow-R-CommandLighting Controls

Using task and ambient light-ing control strategies willenable building occupants toadjust lighting levels to meettheir task needs as well aspersonal preferences andreduce lighting energy con-sumption by 10 to 30 percent.

    Uninterruptible PowerSystems (UPS)

Eaton BladeUPS go evenfurther with a rating upwardsof 97% efficiency, further mini-mizing energy usage.

    ENERGY STARandHarmonic MitigatingTransformers

Use of harmonic mitigatingtransformers (HMTs) smoothout the energy-use curve. The increasing amount ofelectronic equipment in facili-ties increases the amount ofnonlinear loads, reducing theefficiency of electronic equip-ment and creating overloadconditions. HMTs correct thissituation.

    The results are 30% less

power loss when compared tostandard delta-wye designedtransformers.

    Circuit Breakers

Circuit breakers waste 10 to30% less energy for equivalentloading levels when comparedto fuses. Less wasted energymeans less generated powerand therefore less greenhousegas production. (http://pps2.com/b1/watts_calc.php) forenergy and greenhouse gasreduction.)

    Paralleling Switchgear

When applying renewableon-site generation, Eatonparalleling switchgear can

provide a smooth transitionEatons solutions combine thproven power circuit breakeswitchgear and circuit breakers with advanced, industryleading, microprocessor basengine generator set controfor any distributed generatioapplication.

When applying renewableenergy, every effort should bmade to take advantage of nmetering with the local utilit(See Power Xpert).

    Automatic TransferSwitches

A transfer switch is a criti-cal component of any on-sitpower system. When the nomal source of power is lost,a transfer switch quickly andsafely shifts the load circuitfrom the normal source ofpower to the alternate sourcof power. This permits criti-cal loads to continue runninwith minimal or no outage. After the normal source ofpower has been restored, thre-transfer process returns

the load circuit to the normapower source. Such a procewhen combined with paral-leling switchgear allows for seamless connection of on-srenewable energy sourcesthat may operate somewhatintermittently and require sucontrol and transfer capabili

Many projects will havevarious pieces of distribu-tion equipment all headed tothe same general area of theelectrical room. Traditionalpanelboard construction con-

sists of three pieces: a backbox, interior chassis, and trim.Multiplied by the number ofpanels in the electrical room, and added to the distributionswitchboards and transform-ers, the materials add up. TheIFS and IPA come pre-config-ured, reducing the number ofpieces, in many cases, to justone or two, nearly eliminat-ing construction waste andlandfill disposal compared totraditional construction. Eventhe packaging waste is signifi-cantly reduced.
