Basics of Namm

• Namm is not Gurmantra

• Namm is the sound of God’s Voice.

• It can be called Shabad, Shabad Guru, Shage Dune, Nadd, Anhad Bani, Anahad Bani, Sacha Shabad, Panj Shabad, Thure, Har Ke Khata, Amar Khata, Sage Khata, Gur Ka Shabad

• Namm can come in the form of Amrith as well.

• Gurmantra is a tool to help bring all our thoughts down to one thought and ultimately to zero so we can enter Sunn a place free of Maya.

• Maya comes in two forms physical and subtle.

• Anything made of 5 element or thoughts.

Maya

We experience Maya through our

Gyan Indries

Karam Indries

Nine openings in the body

The Kall and the 5 dooths take on different roles to kick the mind out of the body and prevent it connecting to Namm.

Why we do simran

• To bring the mind back in the body.

• Stop our thoughts to get above Maya

• Rid ourselves of the love for Maya

• To get to Namm

• To know or true self

• Bring it back in to Hukum (Divine Command)

The Holy Saint has shown me the Way to the Lord; I chant the Gurmantra. The taste of Maya is totally bland and insipid; the Lord alone is pleasing to my mind. 321

Page 17: Lecture 50

Those who are controlled by the three qualities are attached to Maya.

By Guru's Grace, a few come to understand; they center their consciousness in the fourth state. ||1| 129

Page 18: Lecture 50

What is called Maya? What does Maya do? These beings are bound by pleasure and pain; they do their deeds in egotism.

Page 19: Lecture 50

ਦਬਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਭਰਮੁ ਨ ਚੂਕਈ ਨਾ ਦਿਚਹੁ ਹਉਮੈ ਜਾਇ ॥੬॥ ਦਬਨੁ ਪਰੀਤੀ ਭਗਦਤ ਨ ਹੋਿਈ ਦਬਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਿਾਇ ਨ ਪਾਇ ॥ਸਬਦੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰੀਐ ਮਾਇਆ ਕਾ ਭਰਮੁ ਜਾਇ ॥ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਦਾਰਿੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਗੁਰਮੁਦਖ ਸਹਦਜ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥੭॥ Without the Shabad, doubt is not dispelled, and egotism is not eliminated from within. ||6|| Without love, there is no devotional worship. Without the Shabad, no one finds acceptance.

Through the Shabad, egotism is conquered and subdued, and the illusion of Maya is dispelled. The Gurmukh obtains the Treasure of the Naam with intuitive ease. ||7| 67

ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਦਰਦ ਅੰਤਦਰ ਧਾਰੈ ॥ ਪੰਚ ਜਨਾ ਦਸਉ ਸੰਗੁ ਦਨਿਾਰੈ ॥ ਦਸ ਇੰਦਰੀ ਕਦਰ ਰਾਖੈ ਿਾਦਸ ॥ ਤਾ ਕੈ ਆਤਮੈ ਹੋਇ ਪਰਗਾਸੁ ॥੧॥ Those who implant Gur ka Shabad within their hearts cut their connections with the five passions. They keep the ten organs under their control; their souls are enlightened. ||1||

Page 21: Lecture 50

They alone acquire such stability,

whom God blesses with His Mercy and Grace. ||1||Pause||

Friend and foe are one and the same to them.

Whatever they speak is wisdom.

Whatever they hear is the Naam, the Name of the Lord.

Whatever they see is meditation. ||2||

Page 22: Lecture 50

They awaken in peace and poise; they sleep in peace and poise.

That which is meant to be, automatically happens.

In peace and poise, they remain detached; in peace and poise, they laugh.

In peace and poise, they remain silent; in peace and poise, they chant. ||3||

Page 23: Lecture 50

In peace and poise they eat; in peace and poise they love.

The illusion of duality is easily and totally removed.

They naturally join the Saadh Sangat.

In peace and poise, they meet and merge with the Supreme Lord God. ||4| 236
