Comments on the Test

Maybe the tests were a little easy...

Most people did really well, lots of 5 6s

Lots of people did the FSI impressive

We were pretty tough on the marks if you didnt get

through it or made serious errors

These tools are dangerous if you dont use them

carefully!

Who managed to cheat?

Seriously... Interested to hear how you did it

Exam Info & Revision

What will the exam be like?

2 hrs

100 marks available (worth 30% of your final mark)

Closed book

Calculators and drawing instruments (rulers etc) allowed Write ON the exam paper, no script books

Use back of pages for working if needed

Pay attention to the allocated marks

Pay attention to the space provided indication of work required

You get a range of graphs and tables to work with Exam should be relatively simple but it is loooooong (25 pages!)

Work quickly and do the stuff you know first

Look at last years exam an idea... totally different material though

What is on the exam?

80 Marks on the Project / CAD / FEA / CFD / FSI

20 Marks on Composites (Videos and demonstration)

Project Background (15Marks) Wing stuff know how to make performance predictions (CL, CD)

using data from the 2 books considering things like aspect ratio,

endplates, ground effect etc.

CAD (10M

arks) Understand how to use constraints and dimensions within acomplicated sketch

How to set up a sketch parametrically using expressions

CFD and FEA (20 marks)

A series of short answer questions on how to do thing, why we do

them and what happens when we dont do them, things that can go

wrong, the processes used etc...

Costing and Redesign (20 marks) Cost a part I give you then re design it for reduced cost. Draw

orthogonal views of your redesign.

Relative Performance Calcs (10Marks)

If you are given a scatter plot of design options determine the beston a relative performance basis, for a range of different weightings.

Plot Pareto frontiers.
