What is a presentation– it is an event communicating information to an

audience

Managing your Presentation

The information to be presented– know your content thoroughly

Time– establish the length in time of the presentation

Slide:– prepare slides

• approximately one content slide per minute• opening, closing slides, questions and ‘signposting’ slides are additional

Venue– check out the equipment

• practise delivering the presentation before the live event date• use a small test audience and obtain constructive feedback.

Structure of Presentation

• Beginning– introduce yourself, the presentation topic and the

structure of the presentation; – Advise whether questions may be asked and when;

• Middle– Use the middle part for the content

• use signposting techniques;

• End– Create a summary;– Allow for questions.

Signposting Techniques

• Purpose– so that the audience know exactly where they are

within the presentation– divide the presentation content into sections– advise the audience of the presentation sections– advise how long in time the presentation will take– advise re questions– recap, once a ‘signpost’ area is complete, ie “that

completes the introduction, now we are moving on to…..”;

Quick tips

• Talk naturally to your audience;• Vary the tone, pitch and volume of voice;• Overall, look at all of your audience area when

delivering the presentation;• Visual aids help to strengthen points;• Rehearse;• Stay focused;• Answer Questions as honestly and concisely as possible

– if you don’t know an answer, then say so, and offer to provide further information at a later date.
