Impressions of stakeholders’ views

ODA, LOCOG, OPLC• Community will be physically

integrated with the Olympic Park• Community is benefiting from

renewed infrastructure, greater security

• Hackney residents get jobs• The whole planning process have been

very efficient and thre has been plenty of consultations with local community

• Olympic Park is an opportunity for community in general

• There is a question mark of effective continuity of tasks (ie. Consultation) being handed over from one organization to the other

The community• 50% are for the Olympic Games and

50% are sceptical• The most important thing is jobs for

local residents• Gangs are a problem• They will need to get help/

training / education / skillls development in preparing to get the jobs

• Do not really know what is going to be after the Olympic Games

• Are sceptical if the ODA/ LOCOG/OPLC fulfill their promises

Various stakeholders on the topic

Hackney council• It is difficult to deal with

many authorities• May want to have a greater

influence over how the Olympic Park impacts development in Hackney Wick

Our observations• ODA/ LOCOG/ OPLC believe that they

are doing a good job • Communities do not feel fully

informed on what is going on in their neighbourhood despite the consultation process that was conducted

• „The greenest Games ever” – Strong focus on environment, but is there enough attention on social issues?

• Social development and integration is the goal

• Infrastructure – very obvious visual contrast between two areas

Hackney Wick• Disengagement with decision-making processes and

lack of information• Higher crime rates• Changing profile of the community• The goal is to avoid a second Canary Wharf

Recommendations• ENGAGEMENT

– Cultural and sporting events involving all the Boroughs preserving the creative spirit and artistic space for the community.

• JOBS– Entrepreneurship (ideally with sustainability orientation).

• Reserving spaces for local small business in Olympic Park• Sponsorship / Competition to support small businesses

– General Training for workers entering the job market

• CONSULTATION– Aiming for two-way, dynamic consultation, to give community the

power to participate decisions.
