the printed word to

the web. They allow

you to quickly and

easily visit specifi c

websites on your

smartphone, simply

by scanning a code

with your phone’s camera. All you

need is a free app.

We’ve taken full advantage of

this technology in the 2012 Farm

Fresh directory. Farm fresh food

isn’t always predictable—farmers’

products and hours are often im-

pacted by local growing conditions

among other factors. So we’ve tried

to link you directly to the most

current information about each

business.

Some businesses update Face-

book reguarly; others have an

established website. Whenever

possible, we have provided a code

that will link you to the most cur-

rent information about businesses

you are interested in.

Don’t have an app to scan QR

Codes? Red Laser is a free app for

both iPhone, Android, and Win-

dows smartphones that will let you

scan QR codes and visit the links.

Money-saving tips:

• Mix it yourself. 100% juice from

frozen concentrate is often less

expensive per serving than

pre-bottled juice.

• Keep it simple. Buy dried beans,

peas, and lentils in their raw or

uncooked form instead of the

processed and packaged ver-

sions which cost more.

Eating more fresh fruits and vegetables for less

• To make many fresh fruits and

vegetables last longer, store

them in the refrigerator or

freezer soon after getting home

from your shopping trip. Many

cookbooks offer specifi c freez-

ing instructions.

• Clearly label your foods in the

freezer and refrigerator with the

contents and date to stay within

a safe time frame.
