MARIA MONTESSORI:MARIA MONTESSORI:• Graduated as the first female medical doctor in Italy.
• Studied anthropology and psychology extensively.
• Derived the basic principles of the Montessori Method through
careful, scientific observation of children.
• Began the first Montessori school called La Casa dei Bambini in
Rome in 1907.
• Intuited what modern educational/scientific research has proven.
Many of her most important educational principles have been
endorsed by contemporary educational researchers/theoreticians.
• There are approximately 4,500 Montessori schools in the United
States and about 20,000 worldwide. (NAMTA, 2014)
The Montessori educational method
combines Montessori’s wisdom about children and their learning, with a 21st
century view of what children need to enjoy
learning and live joyfully.
